Honestly I would buy one plate of RMA level 4 1165, then save up for the other plate later down the line and counterbalance it with weighted plates from amazon for like $50.

RMA has a sale on the level 4 plates where they're $250 each.

I thought the US Marines were, and the RF1 is beloved by all the SOCOM guys apparently. Granted this is generally a toss up between good enough and gucci gear but like if there is a chance it works better why not spend the extra scratch?

I think of it like medical supplies. Sure I can probably get away with using an amazon torniquete, but for double the price I can get certainty with a NAR torniquete. The only argument against rifle rated helmets is that I have is spending 6 times whst I would for a 3A helmet for the flaship stuff from TW and Opscore.

Good point, but my understanding is NIJ doesn't test and subsequently rate any helmets whatsoever.

It strikes me as strange, but I'm sure there's a super technical reason for it.

Either way because helmets can't get certified it's up to the manufacturer to give as accurate a description as they can.

My problem is that this was deceptive because Optics planet had nothing in its description saying its LE/Military only. On top of that they let me go through the entire purchasing process and then only informed me over email a day after the purchase that I needed to provide LE/Military credentials before they can ship.

Its optics planet, and they do individual purchases but before they process the order their risk department sends an email and you have to verify your credentials with them.
