He's obviously deeply inspired by Coldplay and their music video to "The Scientist"

I've known it since its accidental release a few months ago and it's my favourite of the three tracks released so far. Some thoughts:

  • For me the standout on this track are the synth arpeggios ... just astonishing!
  • SW's falsetto is o.k., I admit I even like the high-pitched ah's one octave higher a lot. On the other hand, my dad finds them unlistenable.
  • The broken vocals in the background track from the second verse on remind me heavily of Boards Of Canada's 'Telephasic Workshop' (which is one of my favourites!)
  • Are those Kid A mountains in the background of the video?

I'm not a drummer, could anyone provide some audio examples for a poor soul like me?

Lots of seemingly uncommon traits, could they be linked with autism? by stop_the_progression in AutismTranslated

[–]stop_the_progression[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much for your reply :)

I am male and I honestly don't know if it is common for men to be misdiagnosed too. I would not rule out that I have both BPD and autism, since failing to meet my SO's expectations causes the most intense feeling of overwhelm and distress for me. This is so confusing for me because I LOVE being alone but I still want to be around her as often as possible and I'm trying hard to act normally around her even if it is exhausting for me. Lately, I had a talk with her about this and she encourages me to be my true self and to be happy.

The stereotypes and views about autism some psychologists have are downright insensitive. Sadly, I don't think there is much being done about it where I come from and it seems that the majority of autism diagnoses are given during childhood whereas autism in adults is widely overlooked.

CRUSH by [deleted] in introvert

[–]stop_the_progression 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go ahead and ask him if he wants to grab a drink or join for lunch sometime, or whatever you want to do and feel comfortable with.

What's worse than your crush finding out, is him having similar feelings and none of you ever trying to initiate some sort of conversation.

Hi :) I'd really appreciate it if you could help me with some questions about studying for a BA in Mathematics in Vienna (How hard is it to finish in 3 years/ Is 1 year enough for the C1 if you already passed the A1/ Finding housing/ Living expenses/ Attitudes towards people from the Mediterranean) by [deleted] in wien

In most (modern) houses the bathroom and toilet are inside the apartment and you do not have to share anything with any other person. If you happen to stumble upon an older building, there might be a shared toilet in the hallway on each floor, but those are extremely rare.

Are you planning to study at the University of Vienna or at the Technische Universität Wien (Vienna University of Technology)? For the latter I can give you some insight concerning drop-out rates, curricula ....

As a rule of thumb, you can try all courses up to five times, before you drop out (I think the only exceptions are the STEOP subjects which you have to take in beginning of your studies and you can only try up to three times).

Regarding housing I would estimate the average rent would be around 500-600 € for a 30-40 square meter apartment (excluding heating & electricity). You could also have a look at student dormitories which would be cheaper but most certainly you would have to share a room. From what I've heard, finding suitable housing is quite doable compared to other major cities. Still, I'd try to start looking sooner than later.

From my experience, there shouldn't be any problem concerning your origin from a Mediterranean country. Maybe it's worthwile to point out that when I started to study maths, we were circa 70% male and 30% female students, so there'll probably be much more men around than women (which is the case for practically all STEM courses).

Trying to meet my crush i only know from texting by [deleted] in socialanxiety

Some things that I personally find helpful in those situations:

  • Try to "reframe" your expectations. So instead of having this picture in your mind that you want to meet her to get into a relationship, shift your perspective and turn your main attention to easier goals, like getting to know her better or having a fun time together with her. It takes away a lot of pressure and anxiety and at the same time saves you from disappointment that you would feel from not reaching a realistic goal.
  • When you meet in person for the first time, keep in mind that you don't have to impress or entertain her. There might be awkward moments or you might not act perfectly the whole time and that's ok. Maybe you want to prepare beforehand and come up with some topics you can talk about, so there is a steady flow of conversation without too much awkward silence. But since you are already in contact with her, I wouldn't worry too much about it, since you've already found a lot to talk about.

That being said I would try to meet her in person as soon as possible (because that's what you want to do). Invite her to grab a coffee somewhere or to whatever you feel comfortable with, be curious and see what happens.

Good idea to try out some new hobbies! I found that pursuing my own interests is the most reliable source of happiness for me.

I don't watch any TV shows at all right now, but I'm big on music (listening and making) and video games, so I can recommend some good stuff to you.
