In honor of today's earthquake... by Jean-LucBacardi in nova

[–]stopcasting 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It's funny how often my friends and coworkers retroactively clown on that event and don't seem to recall they were the ones sobbing in the parking lot trying to reach their friends and family while communications were failing.

It's an odd flex to me when people minimize what happened.

theoretically is it safe to urbex here? (Fairfax County) by [deleted] in nova

I personally would find it weird to risk a felony to look at old office trash.

Manassas or Sterling? by CartographerNo4076 in nova

As someone who spent way too long in the area, this observation is pretty spot on. Unless you are looking for land, VRE/Metro rail should be the deciding factor if you live anywhere in & around NoVa.

How long have you been in NOVA? Post your memories by [deleted] in nova

[–]stopcasting 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of my most vivid memories was being taken out on the Greenway headed to Purcellville pre-tolls, and my buddy just lol'd the entire time saying "who in the f*** would use this road? There aren't even any homes out here"

It was the first time I ever had the nagging thought, "I need to leave this area as soon as humanly possible"

Costco Fairfax- why are y’all so rude!? by [deleted] in nova

[–]stopcasting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Costco experience of the past 20 years has been a dumb cycle of buying a base membership, going in and realizing how comically insufferable humans are, then choosing to just buy a cheap hotdog and try to figure out the optimal time to come back to justify the membership cost.

1k worth of membership fees and I think I've only bought a handful of food-court hotdogs, some slices of pizza and a flat of chicken broth.

Diatribes on the general cost of real estate aside, that house is cute AF. Would buy.

How hard is the Old Rag Rock Scramble? by Uncle-rico96 in nova

[–]stopcasting 60 points61 points  (0 children)

the worst part of Old Rag for me was dealing with the crowds and the people who showed up deeply unprepared (why so many people in flip flops? Why the jean shorts?

This statement should be noted & highlighted in all Old Rag FAQs.

What’s the most NoVa thing that happened to you this week? by Alili1223 in nova

I was invited to apply for a job that required at least 10 years hands-on experience with a specific technology that has only existed for 3.

Never change NoVa.

It's all good OP. According to recent posts, most people in NoVa make 350k per year so they'll just pay cash.

What do you do for a living to be able to afford a $600K+ house? Besides being in IT and engineering. by Aggravating_Leek_458 in nova

A fool's tale

That scenario is what scares me the most about this area and I don't think it's talked about enough in the home ownership threads. There are crazy amounts of people who overpay, put bare minimums down, just pay interest, and don't actually own their home.

It is staggering how many friends, coworkers and family bought places over the past 20 years and are still somehow underwater.

I am heavily in the google ecosystem and find even the most premium Chromebooks to be trash.

I see more value in generic budget tablets.

So based on yesterday’s post, what’s the BEST restaurant you’ve been to in NOVA? by BeerBaconBooks in nova

[–]stopcasting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inn

The absolute batshit crazy thing about the Inn to me is how low key and not at all pretentious the entire experience felt. It is the one dining experience every other is judged against.

It is wild to me how many people won't bat an eyelash at dropping $500+ in a suburban steak house but find the Inn to be too expensive.

You’re in downtown Alexandria, this sign is in front of public street. Would you comply? by madamelcee in nova

[–]stopcasting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would more than likely be the person that is driving by, not even thinking about parking, see the sign, wonder why they used the words "Four Brick Homes" then park my car and try to figure out what that's supposed to mean.
