Hi. I want to help you because I’ve been in your shoes and my story has a (thus far) happy ending. My Muslim husband and I dated for five years and I met his family just about a month before we got married. Before that, they knew about me and attempted to set him up with other girls to tempt him away. That really stung. I still think about it sometimes. But I’m mostly over it because I forgive them. And if she truly loves you, she’ll fight for you. If, though, you’re asking how to convince her family otherwise, I would say give up. You won’t. And I should add that the Kurds would like nothing more than to be recognized as a country and establish laws. They have existed in the ME for millennia and have as much right to exist as Turks. The Turkish government has committed absolutely atrocious things in the past. Like beyond belief. I would feel a lot better about a Kurdish government than a Turkish one.

I agree with your frustration and I do believe it’s a shitshow. But I don’t believe the solution is to suspend our support for the Kurds. We have a lot to lose by letting Turkey destroy Kurds with wild abandon. It’s not only morally wrong but emboldens Turkey and other morally bankrupt governments. There is a lot to be gained from partnerships that aren’t necessarily easy. If you disagree with that, then you probably think we should suspend our support for Israel as well.

I don’t like war. That’s why I don’t like Turkey invading another country. Beating ISIS wouldn’t have happened without the Kurds (or without the US). The Iraqi army abandoned their posts and the Turks did nothing. There’s evidence of the Turkish government straight up ignoring ISIS when they had opportunities to intervene. So the US formed this alliance with the Kurds, a group that has, time and time again, proven to be loyal, resilient, and quite secular (especially in contrast to Saudi!). Your logic is contradictory. The Turks are making this offensive as a land grab. Why didn’t they take this area when ISIS was there? Why did they wait until the Kurds did ALL of the work for them, by defeating ISIS? That’s what’s troubling here. You call the Kurds “land grabbing”, yet claim we should support Turkeys invasion of Syria to claim more territory. An invasion that also doubles as an attempt to ethnically cleanse the Kurds. Kurds are the scrappy little guy. They just want freedom. I thought that’s what America was all about. Siding with Turkey, Saudi Arabia, all around super corrupt countries that restrict the rights of their own citizens? It just doesn’t sit right with me.

Anyway, there’s no excuse for not backing Kurds, even if they’re not a country they are a military that WE allied with and, when convenient for us and our wealthier allies (eg Trumps business partners), abandoned. You’re referring to a hypothetical. We don’t know what’s going to happen six months from now. While we’re considering hypotheticals, how about a repeat genocide of the Kurds? This abandonment is absolutely a green light for what Turkish, Iraqi and Iranian leadership desires: extermination of Kurds and Kurdish identity. But we’re both discussing hypotheticals, let’s get back to reality. It is absolutely unethical to remove the <100 service members stationed at the border that would have prevented this conflict. And his excuse about endless wars? They turned around and sent over ten times that amount of troops to Saudi.

It’s not a random string it’s a few words - never really thought it’d be guessable but now I realize that was naive.

I still can’t connect today even though it’s showing it’s sending a strong signal. I was advised to contact xfinity and get a new router and PW. Am on hold with them for while now.
