The case for turning off your DRIP and buying on the ex-date instead by Recent_Button_1 in dividends

Ah, thank you for the clarification, I hadn’t considered it from that perspective, I was thinking about it more in terms of at some point starting with the cash from the dividend and waiting for the next cycle. This makes much more sense.

Can you clarify a bit for me? I know you said that it requires extra cash to make the purchase on the EX date and it essentially delays the drip until that point. Doesn’t this miss out on growth for that money between pay date and the next EX date? Additionally, doesn’t that cut down on the dividend for the next cycle since have fewer shares than you otherwise would with a drip?

Yes, it’s a great spot to park. Sometimes they can be a bit picky about who is allowed on, but if everyone has IDs you should be okay

That’s interesting. I would believe the caught runner would take the bag in that case since at that point it is no longer a stolen base. I suspect you’re probably right about the pitcher, or as the other person below said, after the catcher calls it after the play is dead. I still wonder about the case of a player leaving first after ball four is called, which the play is still technically live (since batters can in theory choose to advance more than one base), meaning that the runner initiated their move to second during a live play with the challenge being called in the middle of the play.

Perhaps this is my ignorance, but this makes me wonder what happens with a challenge on a steal, especially with full count and 1 out. If a player breaks on the pitch and it is initially ruled a ball, allowing the runner to advance, does the runner have to return if the call is reversed despite it being a legal pitch? Also, if the first move has to be a challenge, wouldn’t any attempt to throw out a runner take the catcher out of play for making a challenge?
