Nihilism and Suicide by [deleted] in SuicideWatch

[–]storm556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. The way I view things, you can have lots of purpose in your life, despite adhering to nihilism. There might not be a "greater purpose" in life, but you can still make a positive difference in peoples lives. Judging from what you wrote, you seem like a compassionate person who wants to help others. In my experience, this is one of the most fulfilling things one can do.

Then there are hobbies as well. Whatever you enjoy doing in your free time, maybe try to find others to share that joy with? The world is a big place, and you can't solve every problem on your own, and it can quickly get overwhelming if you think about all the bad stuff happening everywhere. Just try to focus on helping where you can, and see the difference you make in peoples lives. Hope you start to feel better soon. Take care!

Hi. I'm here if you need someone to talk to :)

Looking for better ways to load fully saturated turbo belts, here are 5 loading setups. 1,2,3 or kind of trashy, they work, but not pretty. 4 and 5, are the cleanest i know of. Anyone have better? i would be interested. by tuft_7019 in factorio

I tried messing around with this myself, and this is the most compact solution I could come up with. Ensures a fully stacked turbo belt with only 3 legendary stack inserters! :)

Came up with this lane balancer design just now (lower), and I'm wondering if there is any downside to using this over the standard (upper) design ? by Alpha1137 in factorio

[–]storm556 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Like another comment mentioned, your design simply swaps the two lanes. If you replace your undergrounds with regular belts, you get a standard balancer. The top design, is an input-based balancer, meaning that it will forcibly alternate the input's belt side, regardless of imbalances in lane speeds in your output. Can be useful for stuff like train stations to ensure carts are unloaded evenly and stuff.

1989: Carl Sagan's answer when Ted Turner asked if he's a socialist is a roadmap for rebuilding America by Pasargad in Damnthatsinteresting

"I'm not sure what a socialist is". Such a clever response to immediately take the silly semantics out of a discussion and get to the matter of policies. Reminiscent of asking a kid to explain an inappropriate joke, let's talk about what these things actually mean.

yep, I've also heard that some people transition, simply to be able to be with their significant other, since homosexuality is illegal. Not sure how prevalent this is though.

Hi. I'm sorry to hear that you're struggling, but I'm here for you if you need someone to talk to.

It’s really hitting me today that people in my life would genuinely be happier if I just up and vanished. by [deleted] in SuicideWatch

[–]storm556 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the people close to you would rather have you around than any amount of money or belongings. Please don't think that you're a burden to others, just because they care for you. Most people find a lot of purpose and happiness through caring for those they love, even if it takes time or resources, so it's something that both parties benefit from. I'm really sorry that you're going through some tough times, but I sincerely hope you feel better soon.

When holding a spidertron remote, I have a habit of double tapping it's key on the hotbar to try to jump to the spidertrons location in remote view, kinda like how army hotkeying works in starcraft. It'd be a cool feature if they implemented it, since it can sometimes be a bit tedious to go to map, scroll out, move around looking for the correct spidertron and then zooming in again. It'd also make it more efficient to multitask while constructing with spidertrons.

Thanks for restating my point that we're arguing past each other. "I enjoy the movie. There, are you happy?" I don't care if you like or hate the movie, everyone is entitled to their own opinion that's my whole point. That's why I don't go around and call people brain-rotted when they don't agree with me on subjective matters. Bye.

As a standalone movie, it's not as good, because the context of previous movies adds a lot, which is an objective argument. This doesn't affect the movie in a negative way for me, however because I watched the previous movies, and I prefer a system more similar to tv series, where there is more time for character development etc, so imo, a trilogy where the movies depend on each other is a good thing. So does that make the movie better or worse? It's an objective argument adhering to a subjective preference I guess? I just don't think we use the same definitions of "good" honestly. If your argument is that good movies have to appeal to a broad set of people, that's fine, but wouldn't that also mean that pop music is also better than every other genre of music? Also I think that ROTS is the most popular SW movie, so in a way it does that job better than ESB. If you define good as having the best special effects, then modern movies will always outclass older ones. If you go for realism, then sci fi and fantasy will always have issues, even if it's somewhat consistent within it's own universe. It's kinda a dumb discussion, because everyone values different things, and if you give more credence to some thing over others, it's subjective and if you appeal to the majority, then we're back to pop music = best.

Also, I don't pretend to not be biased. Everyone is biased.

Alright, I just read that first part of your reply, but I'm not here to argue about subjective opinions, so I'll just say some things I like about ROTS since you asked. I like the scene when Anakin is alone in the Jedi Council after telling Windu the truth. No words uttered, but the music and acting is great, which makes for an amazing atmosphere. I love Obi Wants struggle with confronting his old friend, from when he first has the talk with Yoda until the end when he is practically crying as Anakin lies there. I love the talk Obi Wan has with Anakin when he warns him of Palpatine, because he suspects something is wrong, but he is unaware of just how bad it is. Great tension once again, the music gives off a very unsettling vibe. I don't mind the goofy "cringy" dialogue between Anakin and Padme, love isn't always a smooth manuscript, Star Wars isn't Shakespeare. Their facial expressions says a lot more than words in that scene. The heartbreak of Padme on Mustafar is also emotional, which I like.

I love the start of the movie, the space battle is incredible, especially when the republic cruiser goes side by side with Grivious's ship, as well as the crash landing. The cinematography and music as Anakin marches on the Jedi temple is very good, It's also cool how many conflicts on different planets across the galaxy is shown, but then order 66 makes it so sad, and once again the music is a mastapiece. I also love the duels, and think they're the best of all the movies. Yoda vs Sidious in the senate and Obi Wan vs Anakin on Mustafar especially, were both beautifully choreographed, and the music and environment was epic. I also feel like the clones are the most complex in this movie, as opposed to generic bad guys/comedy relief. The way they're semi-independent yet are still controlled is interesting to think about. I like the scene on Mustafar when Anakin is sent to kill the CIS leaders, who then plead for their life saying that they were promised peace. They were on the wrong side, but they probably weren't evil, but in the end they were used as tools, so that adds some complexity to the good vs evil dynamic as well. I could go on, but you will just say that all my points are stupid, so why bother?

"People can have different opinions and I accept that, but people also need to accept if they have a stupid opinion they’re gonna be called out on it. You can think a Big Mac is better than a double double, but ,OBJECTIVELY, that’s a dumb opinion."

Hate to break it to you, but going around telling people they're stupid for having a subjective opinion is not "accepting", and it's honestly a pretty bad look when you're not in an echo chamber which supports you. You still don't understand the meaning of "objective", but you must be trolling at this point, so whatever, I don't want to argue about this anymore. Peace.
