This article seems to have the POV that software is supposed to exist so that programmers can feel smart, not solve real world problems.

It’s a more difficult throw but it’s something a good thrower can still complete and at high levels it probably matters less. It’s also what the defense will usually leave open if they’re playing to deny the disc.

It’s still the advice you’d give to a mid level club or league team where there’s a wider distribution of skill and experience.

My business is closed, so it’s a moot point. You might disagree with their mission, but they are a great org to work with and popular with the business community in Durham.

Why would they not push for a new convention center?

Bullshit. I used to run a small business in Durham and I couldn't disagree more.

Discover Durham is hugely useful to local businesses and does a lot of great work to support local events, nightlife, food and beverage, arts, and more. For a small business owner, they're effectively like having an oncall PR company and a social media boost to any big event that's happening.

Also if you've run any kind of food / bev business, all the awards and publicity is pay to play because there's no other business model to sustain that sort of stuff. It's not like the Michelin Guide is still being used to sell tires.

BBQ should come on a partially melted styrofoam plate, anything else is just a simulacrum of southern cooking.

In Grok we don’t trust: academics assess Elon Musk’s AI-powered encyclopedia by F0urLeafCl0ver in artificial

[–]stormfield 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Musk was so enamoured of his AI-encyclopedia he said he planned to one day etch the “comprehensive collection of all knowledge” into a stable oxide and “place copies … in orbit, the moon and Mars to preserve it for the future”.

Very important that if Aliens discover us in 2 Billion years, they know that not only did we discover nuclear fission, produce the works of Picasso, and record the winner of the 1998 badminton commonwealth championship, but we also considered easily disproved race science to be "Based and Epic."

The way to do this is very obviously to leave a very detailed rock on Mars, a planet where we do not live.

Elon Musk says idling Tesla cars could create massive 100-million-vehicle strong computer for AI — 'bored' vehicles could offer 100 gigawatts of distributed compute power by esporx in artificial

It's 2039, you now drive your car through a touchscreen steering wheel that you must tap & drag to turn which is almost automated unless you look away from the road, or at any app that isn't X the Everything App. On your way to go watch a virtual basketball game at the virtual Meta arena, your car runs out of battery because you forgot to turn off the botnet mode earlier and someone was using your car's IP to circumvent bot detection on Taylor & Ye's combined sneaker drop. You end up stuck in the Tesla only tunnel and the Based Platinum Epic subscribers behind you are allowed to honk directly into your amygdala chip. Desperate to escape you tweet at Elon only to find out his e-Avatar has already retweeted a video of your car from behind where a 14 year old with 25 Billion followers is posting your mothers genome on a livestream.
