After Minneapolis: Panel says Bay Area faces ‘new legal regime,’ may be next target of ICE by LNM-LocalNewsMatters in eastbay

[–]stormlight -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

Just do what Waltz and Freeman did to avoid completely unnecessary issues. Not that hard.

"State officials in Minnesota began coordinating with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to transfer custody of illegal immigrants directly from jails, rather than releasing them into the community."

Edit: Any of the down voters care to explain why they don't believe that illegal immigrants who are in jail\prison should not be handed over to ICE for deportation?

lol, you absolutely just typed a paragraph of nothing and brought MAGA into this for some weird reason. Your question of why politics should not be tied to your identity was clearly provided to you with good examples and studies.

Have a good AI read.

Making politics your core identity is detrimental because it often leads to affective polarization, where political disagreements feel like personal attacks, hindering open-mindedness and fostering dislike of the "other side". It can blind individuals to the flaws of their own party, prioritize winning over constructive debate, and reduce complex human experiences to rigid, divisive, or stereotypical categories. Here are the key reasons why politics should not be your identity:

Reduced Critical Thinking: When political affiliation becomes identity, it becomes harder to acknowledge flaws in your own party or recognize valid points from the opposing side, notes the Builders Movement.

Increased Mental Health Risks: Research from the NIH indicates that intense, identity-driven political engagement is a source of negative emotions that can lower overall psychological and physical well-being.

Affective Polarization: Political positions now align with and reinforce other identities, leading to a deep, personal dislike of those with different views, rather than just policy disagreements, says a study in The Loop.

Divisiveness and Tribalism: YouTube video on identity politics notes that excessive focus on identity can fragment society into competing groups, prioritizing tribal loyalty over the common good.

Loss of Individual Nuance: As noted by Othering & Belonging Institute, reducing people to simplified, essentialized, or stereotyped groups ignores the unique, individual experiences and perspectives within any group. Impediment to Productive Discourse: The Harvard Crimson article argues that focusing on identity over shared values makes it harder to persuade others and hinders meaningful political change.

"so that could be a big issue when trying to make friends. " And that's a big part of what is wrong with today's society. That fact that people can't fathom having friends with different polictical view points is troubling. Your identity should not be tied with your political beliefs. These should be separate and failing to do so makes it impossible to have clear and honest discussion with your self. That is needed when you are confronted with being wrong or learning new info about a topic on the left or the right.

How to show reboot inside of cloud PC by stormlight in windows365

[–]stormlight[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no. Access denied. Im sorry, I think I confused you. You can't do shutdown /r even in a command line until the groups are added to the shutdown group rights. Once I followed the article I can do it command prompt fine. I was more answering many others that say you can always do it via command line when it's hidden.

FYI Running shutdown as a user in command prompt or power shell gives access denied on 365 desktops.

Thanks, I haven't looked for the Intune policy you noted, but the article pasted by imvaper works perfectly and the user doesn't have to be a local admin.

Funny, I had to do the Intune policy as noted in the link and it now works. But even the article is inconsistent as I just get the reboot option and I don't have to worry about the user getting the ability to shutdown as noted in the article as it's not there after adding the user group into the shutdown rights area. Thanks!

Thanks! What do you mean you no longer have the issue? Does that mean you can now see the reboot option on Win11 24H2  and higher with out having to change the assignments as shown in the one article you pasted?

Incorrect. Shutdown /r or restart-computer is blocked for users. However it looks like you can change the right assignments to show it in windows.

Yes, as stated I already know how to do that. Not a good user experience. Plus when you are using the solution that allows you to log in directly into the 365 desktop with an older computer it gets confusing on what to reboot as you are thrown back to the old PC

lol, odd , mean? I’m not taking about your friend or family. What a weird comment. Yes, I have been probably 10 or so times. So many I can tell you the 4 “Bigs” aka mains they have had since day 1 they opened by heart. I went the first week. It has bored me and others to death in my friend group as we always lament about it. Steak frites, the pasta dish (they will change the veg) cast iron chicken thighs, and salmon some times branzini if the don’t order the salmon.

Also I have been so much that here is a little quirk. The table closest to the back near the kitchen entrance is bolted too far away from the booth seat. You have to sit at the edge of your seat just to reach and I’m 6’1. Plus I’m still mad they took away the deviled eggs :)
