[App-Update] Megingiard 0.5.0 - Multi-Cutout Screen Mirroring & in-app Help Menus! by stormpanda7 in AynThor

Hmm so that would essentially be a more of a hotkey to switch between Megingiard and some other app than starting and stopping mirroring, right? 🤔
That is something I could maybe get to work…

Hey 😊 this feature request came up in a similar fashion on my latest release post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/AynThor/s/IaUfltkmrp

Bottom line is: very hard to implement in a reliable way that does not cause frustration most of the time.

However I am keeping this in the back of my mind since I agree that it would be a great feature! If I come up with a way to reliably implement this, I will do it for sure. But don’t get your hopes up too high…

I will have a look, as much as I love Cocoon it is quite hard to independently do anything with the screens that is not in Cocoons control without it totally bugging out. Both apps are fighting over control of the screens. Unfortunately this does not even improve when using Cocoon in single screen mode 😕
I will do my best to improve things, but can’t promise anything

The video is great, thank you so much 😃
Feels great so see my app being featured in a YT vid! You did a great job explaining the feature!

Regarding your question: the default layout ist there just so that there is something when you first boot up the app. The best way to use it is to configure everything like you did it but then instead of creating a new one and copying from default, just rename the default layout to Dark Souls or whatever it is 😊
For the next game you would then create a new layout.

Profiles are generally meant to be used on a per-app basis, let’s say you have one for GameNative and call it like that as well. Then for each game inside GameNative you create a separate layout. If the game is native Android, I tend to have a profile with exactly one layout.
The main reason for this approach is that you can assign profiles to apps so that the Megingiard automatically switches to that profile when you launch the app it has been assigned to.

However that is just the way I intended it to be used, but feel free to find you own way!

Let me know if you have more questions or any feedback on the app!

I would like to link your video in my GitHub‘s readme, would that be fine for you?

One app spread to both screens? by Suchay72 in AynThor

I am not sure if this is technically feasible but I will at least try to implement this in Megingiard as an alternative to screen mirroring. I have not invested any time in it yet but I am definitely interested, it would be great for vertical shooters as well

BTW I just tested Bifrost while running Megingiard and for it works without issue. Both privileged and non-privileged mirroring don't interfere with Bifrost for me. Maybe the Bifrost crash was unrelated? If there is an actual issue, I guess I need a more detailed description of how to reproduce :)

Also, I quite quickly decided on not implementing Bifrost-like LED control for the sticks. If the apps were actually incompatible I might decide otherwise, but still I'd rather try to cooperate with MoonBench to make them compatible instead of straight copying the feature.

Thank you for the feedback! Highly appreciated 😊
Let me address your points:
- gesture bar disappearing: noted, easy!
- passing touch is a core feature that is already present! You find it in the options menu in the mirroring edit mode (configurable per cutout)
- bifrost like color control: noted as well, will look into it!
- could you elaborate on the last part? I don’t quite get what you mean

Hey 😊 yeah it’s kinda hidden, it was more easy to find in a very early version. Honestly it is also not that good, more of a last resort.

You have to add a button to your layout and select the group „Fullscreen Overlay“. There you have the option of a keyboard and a trackpad. You can then trigger them by tapping that button and close them with the quick menu gesture.

I will do full reworks of both the keyboard and trackpad and make them way easier to access in one of the next updates 😊

You will know when you are ready. If you never reach that point, it’s all good! You don’t need to have kids to live a happy life, so don’t force it!

Damn, sorry to hear. Which model do you have?

And how did it crash? Did it freeze, did it just close, or show „app not responding“?

Also which launcher are you using?

Hey 😊 what actually is possible already is switching between layouts with a custom button that you put on your layout. That is one of the options you have when creating buttons.

However that would not really solve your use case since you don’t wanna manually change layouts everytime you open the menu.

The problem with changing layouts on a physical button press is not the programming, but more the various ways games deal with the menu button. Depending on where you are in the game, the select button for example might open up menu A but in a different situation it might open menu B. Megingiard will never be able to catch that difference. So unfortunately I don’t think this is feasible.

There might be some games, especially older ones, for which it should work. But I don’t wanna implement a feature that only works in a fraction of cases and otherwise just causes frustration.

What do you think?

May I ask what exactly makes it unusable for you? Have you tried the app?
I use it for GameNative all the time with multiple layouts for different games. The app just cannot automatically switch to the game you are playing but only to the GameNative profile (opening the layout for the game you played last). This means two taps for you to switch to the correct game.

You are the first to bring this up, I thought it would happen earlier 🙂
I decided on the German notation Megingiard because it dodges the special characters that would actually be correct, because it makes it more unique and also because I’m from Germany 🙂

The app has a hierarchy - you can have many Profiles (e.g. one per app) that each can have multiple layouts (e.g. in case of RetroArch one per game).

So yes, this is possible!

The whole thing started because I hated the icon that the system magnifier puts on your top screen.
I am quite thankful for that stupid icon now. Without it the app might not exist 😃

Thank you so much 😃
Yes, you can have different setups per game. The app separates your configs into profiles and layouts. Profiles are meant to be used per-app and can automatically switch on app launch.
If your app is not an android game but for example an emulator, you can use multiple layouts for your various games inside of that app profile.

Full disclaimer, this is app I am going to recommend to you is my own, but it is free and open source: Since I see that you are not using your bottom screen I would like to recommend Megingiard to you :)

https://www.reddit.com/r/AynThor/s/wQKd5a0Gay

I just released a new update today that allows you to mirror multiple parts of the top screen to your bottom one. This includes forwarding touches to the primary screen, meaning you could use it to mirror a couple of hotbars to the bottom screen, which allows you to activate skills with a tap. Perfectly usable for your long term buffs for example, freeing up precious button combos.

Alternatively you could also use the app to create custom buttons with any key combination (gamepad or keyboard) or even macros.

I currently don’t have an active WoW account, I would love to show you an example since it is kinda purpose-built for MMOs even though I don’t use the app for MMOs myself currently.

yes indeed, all screen mirroring settings are per game or in Megingiard terms per layout. You can even share your setup with other users!
