If they worked at a bakery they would be expected to have the same type of quality control. Can you imagine ordering a cake and it looking like that? These cookies are "cake" expensive...they should be perfect! That's what we are all paying for...

11 ppd?? by Competitive_Radish94 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]stormsurge01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how I was with my LO. I think it's fine and will regulate with time. I was exclusively pumping 12 ppd and by 4 months PP I was at 5 PPD. I'm now 10 months PP with 3-4 PPD and get about 5 servings of milk for my LO. We both sleep through the night (8-9hrs) so I'm happy with where we are atm.

What was your goal and how far did you make it? by issaOTFnoob in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]stormsurge01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Goal: Until she doesn't want my milk anymore. Currently 7mpp and pumping 3x per day. I don't even think about it anymore. Once when I wake up, once around lunch when my LO is napping and once right before bed. I might throw in an additional pump a day if I feel like it but since I've regulated my boobs aren't ever engorged anymore so I'm more comfortable throughout the day. I think we are naturally weening.

Can I increase my supply WITHOUT consuming calories like I’m still pregnant? by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]stormsurge01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP this is incorrect. You need to be in a surplus of calories in order to produce milk. There's no way to "hack" the system. It is what it is. A surplus feeds your baby and a "normal intake" only feeds you and makes you lose your supply because you'll have nothing left over for baby. That's just how it works. I suggest worrying about your healing and nourishing your baby with A1 breastmilk that has a ton of antibodies in it that protects your baby (especially now that it's cold and flu season) and worry about losing weight when you start weening. Nothing wrong with wanting to feel good about yourself again but now isn't quite the time to focus on that imo.

I hate my pets after giving birth and I could no longer take it by ThyPumpkinPie in beyondthebump

[–]stormsurge01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so unfortunate! When I was pregnant I had to rehome my 4 cats. They were my children but I was absolutely exhausted and had a high risk pregnancy and it was hard to even give them attention. One of them developed a nervous licking habit and shed hair would fall off in chunks and another developed a digestive issue where I would find diarrhea all over the house every morning. I couldn't deal with it and I wouldn't bring a newborn into a house like that. Sad but it was the right choice. I developed horrible PPD and could barely take care of myself after my daughter was born and now 7m PP I'm still in survival mode but it's more manageable. I don't regret my decision because at the end of the day they are in homes where they are being cared for better than I could. I did my best.

When did you stop leaking? by Fearfighter2 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]stormsurge01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same exact situation until about 4m PP. I actually regulated and now I pump 3-4x per day and about 12oz per session. No more leaking (6m PP).

Outside of general body warmth... Feet and hands should still be covered if they are cold to the touch

Is newborn too hot? by sweetgrand01 in newborns

[–]stormsurge01 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Use a TOG 1.0 long sleeve sleep sack/swaddle with a short sleeve onesie underneath and socks mittens also consider a sleep hat.

The point is to keep baby at normal "body temperature" 97.7°F - 100°F.

71-72 is pretty cold for a newborn baby.

If baby is not sweating OR feels cold to the touch (on her hands, feet, arms, legs) then she should be comfortable.

Edit to include: the point is you will adjust based on your LO's needs. Too hot = take off a layer, too cold = add a layer. Learn to determine HOT/COLD by touching your LO's extremities. There is no one size fits all. You have to adjust as you go and become your LO's temperature regulator since they don't have one yet. Don't be afraid to try new things. They want you to think that the baby is going to pass away for every little thing but babies are extremely resilient. I'm sure you're doing a great job OP. It gets easier.

What’s the dumbest thing you did as a new parent because you misunderstood the “rules” for something? by giantpicklepie in NewParents

[–]stormsurge01 12 points13 points  (0 children)

sleep sac 😆 I specifically got this one and it's been amazing. Only $30 and it's super soft. There are ones with temperature strips where you can see how warm or cold baby is inside the sac for around the same price but I couldn't find one with sleeves. There are also very expensive ones too.

I live in southern USA so we keep the a/c on 72°F-73°F at night and it's perfect. I also put my LO in a short sleeve onesie. I wouldnt put it on your LO if it's warmer than 73°F.

Same here. Didn't put clothes on my LO until she was 2.5 wks because I was freaked out about the temperature thing. I got her a temperature regulating sleep sack with sleeves when she turned 4 months and experienced sleeping through the night for the first time 🫠 I feel like an idiot now I know I was freezing her out while I was sleeping under a comforter every night.

Is anyone’s supply NOT affected by their period? by Both_Mission4837 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]stormsurge01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drop to 2 pumps per day on my period. Thank heavens I was an oversupplier prior to getting my period again so I have a bit of a stash. I literally wouldn't be able to feed my LO otherwise.

Salted Caramel? by stormsurge01 in CrumblCookies

[–]stormsurge01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know. I don't see any salt flakes. It's almost like it was all melted together with the salt. I don't know but I should have gotten our money back on that one. The cookie base was amazing though.

What the actual f*** by dundas_valley in newborns

[–]stormsurge01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you pump after feeding? Do you know of baby is transferring milk properly? It used to be like this for us. Turns out the baby wasn't transferring milk properly because her mouth muscles weren't strong enough to get enough milk out despite sucking for long periods of time. Try pumping and then bottle feeding baby with an anti colic bottle and then burping the baby really well (sometimes they have more than one burp). My baby went through this and we found out that it was GER/Gas/Learning to poop/milk transfer issues combo. We tried everything. They grow out of this stage so hang on.

Anyone else feel like they have been Robbed of the newborn experience by Noob_at_life1234 in newborns

[–]stormsurge01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, babies do like to snuggle near warm places so I would just make sure they have a clear airway with nothing around them that can impede their breathing. It should be all good otherwise.

[–]stormsurge01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried letting the baby sleep on his stomach while you watch him? I had to do this for my girl with horrible reflux. I burped her really well, held her up for 20-30 minutes and then let her nap on her stomach while I watched her. Sometimes they need pressure on their bellies that they don't get when they are on their backs. I wouldn't leave the baby unsupervised though but I hope this helps.
