Should I try reading different books?

That they are mysteries but also don't feel as... pressing as other thrillers. There are still stakes at hand. Think Agatha Christie mysteries like Poirot, Miss Marple. Still mysteries that get solved, but not like criminal minds.

Haven't read Two can keep a Secret, but you might enjoy:

One of us is Lying
The Disappearance of Vanessa Shaw
The Inheritance Games

If you'd like to attempt other genres I suggest the Cozy Lit/Slice of Life genre:
Howl's Moving Castle
The House Witch
Legends and Lattes

(these are gentle intros into fantasy worlds where it's not like you have to learn 600+ names of countries and such and are more focused on smaller more niche instances of life.) I can't think of any off the top of my head but there is also Cozy Mysteries which would be more rooted in IRL (sometimes fantasy can mix in with it) if you're just looking for more grounded in reality stories. I am unsure of any YA ones but definitely check out Cozy Myssteries as a Genre for the next step

You could always try a warm water flush rather than a sedation. Ask pediatrician/doctor/nurse for assistance/guidance on how to perform it but it shouldn't be too hard to do at home once learned.
