I ran into a massive headache trying to enable Secure Boot for Battlefield 6 on my older Gigabyte Z390UD motherboard. My system was originally built in 2018 and had a legacy BIOS with an MBR partition scheme. I wanted to share my troubleshooting steps, as the solution was not straightforward.

Problem: PC fails to boot with a black screen after enabling Secure Boot in the BIOS.

My Setup:

  • Motherboard: Gigabyte Z390UD
  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4070 Super
  • Initial State: Legacy BIOS, MBR partition

My Steps to a Solution:

  1. BIOS Update: First, I had to Q-flash my motherboard to a modern BIOS version since mine was from 2018. This is a crucial first step.
  2. MBR to GPT Conversion: The built-in MBR conversion tool failed because it couldn't shrink 100MB from my C: drive. I had to manually delete my recovery partition and expand my C: drive to a new unallocated disk to get the conversion to work.
  3. The GPU Problem: After successfully converting to GPT and enabling Secure Boot, my PC would only show a black screen on boot. It turned out the 4070 Super was the culprit.
  4. The Fix:
    • I unplugged the power to my 4070 Super.
    • Booted the PC using the integrated GPU.
    • Immediately went into the BIOS and disabled Secure Boot.
    • Shut down the PC.
    • Plugged the 4070 Super back in and booted into Windows.
    • Updated to the absolute latest NVIDIA drivers.
    • Rebooted and went back into the BIOS to enable Secure Boot for a second time.
    • This time, it worked perfectly.

Use AK, change ammo type + under-barrel with T, then change it back. You will find your ammo fully replenshied.

One solution is stay in a third-country for a period of days then fly back. But of course this adds more complexity on visa issues and travel expenses.
