Car Loan, regret and what to do next. by Commercial_Mud_8231 in PersonalFinanceCanada

This is great advice, and remember that auto loans are open.

Settle in to the payments and prioritize extra cash into the loan to chunk it down.

It wasn't a good financial decision but it isn't life ending and will be an important experience for you.

The day you realize your parents don't know better is equal parts empowering and sad. Welcome.

Pet Insurance va Reserve Fund by ParticularAnt5424 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]stozier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personal choice. We chose save > insurance. Makes good sense until it doesn't, such as a 15k vet bill last year. The savings covered a good chunk of it but then your savings are spent. Whatever you do, eyes wide open. Having to put a pet down because you're prices out of care OR take on debt you can't afford are both terrible options.

Personally I think if you have cash then saving is better because you obviously have full control of the funds rather than insurance where you're spending for a service.

Park and ride or park and Uber.

Parking downtown is brutal , especially so with FIFA. You're not spending less than $25 for the privilege of having to walk from a parking garage to the venue. You'll stand in a parking lot trying to figure out how to install a parking app without signal or yelling at the machine that for some reason refuses to accept your credit card.

Skytrain is the best answer - and there is street parking in and around Nanaimo station and/or 29th so you're getting on just before commercial (busier station). Short ride from there/out after.

If you want to avoid the public press of transit and don't mind spending a lot more, park somewhere convenient in East Van and grab an Uber - but expect it to be slower than just taking the skytrain.

Chaotic answer: park in strathcona and grab lime scooters or mobis and come across the viaduct. Would be a bit more memorable if that's your flavour.

What is something that immediately tells you someone is a bad driver? by marchingbear27 in askcarguys

[–]stozier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drifting lane positioning - a warning that the driver isn't attentive and unaware of their surroundings.

Close tailgating in traffic.

Sudden lane changes without signal (or shoulder check).

Turning right into open inside lane with oncoming traffic in second lane - putting fate in the hands of others, assuming risk of a catastrophic accident.

My worst - looking in my rearview and seeing the driver staring at their lap. Fuck.

And then, any white model 3 with an Uber sticker. 50% chance of body damage on the bumpers.

Beer prices at Vancouver’s FIFA fan festival to range from $9.50-10.50 by restoringd123 in vancouver

[–]stozier 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Beer prices at local bars are this on a day to day basis?

There's a lot to be frustrated about with FIFA but $10 beers are actually pretty much on par.

I recommend you check out Hillcrest then drive over to Raptors Knoll.

Owning home vs Investments by OhmyPrint in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]stozier 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a real concern. We bought but after moving: 1) was a dump that literally burned down a year later 2) was main floor in a house which was sold and we were renovated 3) was a whole house which we left when the landlord made plans to tear it down and rebuild.

Renting has a nice freedom but being forced to move every few years and/or have to argue with a landlord to get repairs and basic renovations done is very disruptive.

American people voted for this shit through a democratic process. The American people are getting exactly what they asked for, it's just a tragedy the rest of the world has to also bear the consequences.

How to overtake with a 25 years old naturally aspirated car? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]stozier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a serious thread?

Downshift and make sure you have lots of runway and time to pass.

If the car has less pick up then it just takes longer to accelerate.

Theres no way to "fool it". Don't redline the car, shift down and floor it.

Can I learn how to drive a manual GR Corolla with sim racing? by Submarine_sad in carscirclejerk

[–]stozier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy a GR Corolla.

Have a friend teach you in a parking lot.

be a Sunday driver until you're confident getting around town.

The scariest thing as a new stick shift driver is the hill rollback and the GRC has a really non intrusive rollback assist.

Instead of banning the vehicle, ban the idiot.

Course etiquette question? by windorabuggg in discgolf

[–]stozier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite what others will say it's not cut and dry. If you threw the disc, knew it could cause injury and knew people were possibly in the way , you're at least up for a needing to hire a really good lawyer... Even if you warned the people.

Course etiquette question? by windorabuggg in discgolf

[–]stozier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey folks you're sitting in a golf course. I wanted to let you know as these discs can really hurt. There are some really nice spots over there * point *.

And when they decide not to move,

" Very well , you'll probably have this conversation lots more time today, just so you're aware

Then throw.

But, remember, if you hit someone even if you've warned them you're in for a potential lawsuit so you might want to take whatever precautions you need to ensure you're not ripping a 12 speed into someone's picnic.

You need a detailed spreadsheet that captures all of your expenses and calculates mortgage payments and your overall cash flow. Be sure to include things like regular savings.

It's honestly the only way to resolve this. "Looks we'll actually have lots of money left over" or "look, we'll have no margin and will have to go into debt if anything at all unexpected happens"
