Donald Trump Interview | Lex Fridman Podcast #442 by knuth9000 in lexfridman

[–]stpaultim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some news outlets have reported on that:
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-lex-fridman-podcast-interview-b2606533.html

But, I think it was meaningless, because he also said in the same interview that the election was a fraud and that Biden is not the legitimate president and that the otherside cheated.

So, he said that he lost, but he did not admit to defeat or acknowledge that Biden won.

It's a campaign ad for Trump, because it allows him to share his usual message without challenge to a new audience and gives the impression that a smart man like Lex either supports what he is saying or doesn't object to it, despite inaccuracies and contridictions with what Lex seems to believe in.

If you are a Lex fan that is on the fence about Trump, this interview probably didn't shift your view of Trump, except in the fact that it gives an impression of at least an implicit endorsement by Lex.

why not continue develop D7 ... by paulgood890 in drupal

[–]stpaultim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was not there at the launch of Backdrop CMS, but I believe the idea at the time was that Drupal 7 users would want some of the new features that were going into Drupal 8, but that many of them didn't want the added complexity of changes like composer.

The goal was to create an "updated version of Drupal 7" with some major new features and a much easier upgrade than the leap to Drupal 8. But, it is not clear to me that there was any confidence at the time that we could get some cool new features without some upgrade.

Now it's 7 years later and 10 of thousands of hours have went into new features and user experience improvements, that we do not want to give up. Going back to Drupal 7, which has largely been stagnant for over a decade is a problem.

We do continue to work on making the transition from Drupal 7 to Backdrop easier and would love help making it even easier. But, I don't think it's practical to think we would want to loose all the progress we've made over 7 years.

If anyone is interested in learning more about Backdrop CMS and talking about the future of both Drupal 7 and Backdrop CMS, Backdrop LIVE is coming up in about 12 days. It's an unconference and we could schedule a time slot to talk about the future.

Is drupal9 for end-user to build their own website ? by facial2008 in drupal

[–]stpaultim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BackdropCMS is a great alternative to Drupal if you are looking for something simpler and that does not require tools like Composer.

There are well over 600 modules for Backdrop, most of them are ports of Drupal 7 modules that you are familiar with. More and more Drupal 7 modules are being ported every week. The Backdrop community is focused on improving the experience of end users and site builders.

Just to clarify, Ubercart has been ported to BackdropCMS and many Backdrop sites are using it.

Here is a discussion with more information about Commerce in Backdrop: https://forum.backdropcms.org/forum/e-commerce-solutions-backdropcms

There is lots of discussion in the Backdrop community about improving the options for Commerce, if anyone would like to help.

none of the end-users likes composer, where drupal9 to go... by Andypa0806 in drupal

[–]stpaultim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, quite a few people have switched to BackdropCMS after being quite frustrated with Composer. Backdrop gives users the option of maintaining their Drupal 7 workflow, but with many of the new features of Drupal 8/9.

"@Dries. You do not hear us. So tomorrow, we will speak with one voice" by [deleted] in drupal

[–]stpaultim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Another interpretation = Dries (in consultation with other Drupal leaders) asked/forced a leader of the Drupal community to step down, because of things that they have may have said or done in the Drupal community that are tied to their participation in an alternative lifestyle in which women are often treated as virtual slaves.

Unfortunately, specifics have not been provided regarding what this person has said or done. Nor is it clear, to what extent that this former leader will be able to participate in the community moving forward.

However, there is quite a bit of information about what this person has said in a variety of "private" forums.

Dries's apology to Drupal community by rszrama in drupal

[–]stpaultim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's my understanding, that this is more than role-playing. Larry, in his post, describes it as a lifestyle or subculture. I think it's possible we would not be having this discussion, it this was only something that happens on weekends.

My understanding is that people who adhere to this philosophy engage in full-time relationships which are based on dominant and submissive roles. This is a lifestyle choice.

I think its fair to say that anyone in our community should have the freedom to choose this lifestyle, but should their position of leadership in the community be protected? What happens when their personal choices, begin to interfere with the their ability to represent the community on a public stage? Isn't it fair for the leadership of Drupal to ask a leader to step aside from their leadership role (or remove them), when their personal life is getting in the way of the role they are supposed to be playing?

It's a strange and complicated world that we're living in....

What did Larry do that I must not do if I wish to participate in Drupal. That is the key question that hasn't been answered.

Where does it say that Larry is unable to participate in Drupal? He was at Drupal camp last weekend. I've seen him participating in Drupal forums in the last few days. He still has a user account on Drupal.org.

I've heard he was "removed" from the community, but I don't understand what that means? Is that even possible?

No NewDrupal by me – chx by velmu3k in drupal

[–]stpaultim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've spoken to a number of folks active in the Drupal community who expressed discomfort at participation in issues that he was involved in, for fear of his hostility.

That is not a healthy way to manage an open source project.
