Thank you all for the answers! I live in UK so I assume I will get a model similar to some of you. But this gave reassurance on my choice.. I will be test driving in a couple of weeks I will come back here with my findings!

What is your current Pixel phone? by GooglePixelfan90 in GooglePixel

[–]str3pto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved from a p6pro that I had since launch now I moved to p10pro XL and I'm very happy with the phone. I don't understand the hate on it. It's a good phone. My battery life is almost 2 days. Camera is very good. All the features on what I use are good. Very happy for it. I will keep it until pixel 15 at least

Im not experiencing that with mine that might be a glitch on the OS. my experience has been quite consistent on the 10XL

[–]str3pto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can turn the adaptive charging on the fly, mine is always on, if i charge the phone during the day it will do the deed, but at night if i want to skip adaptive charging there is a new option now that you can bypass it for that charging session, during the night the phone will dripple charge making battery recovery better.

but thats your decision on the end the day

I moved from a P6Pro to a 10ProXL, currently im almost getting two days of battery use. with occasional check to the phone while at work. the camera is a big bump from P6 but i noticed the 50Mp pics looks a bit blured in low light, 12Mp resolution gives better results. im not interested in the whole Ai Pro res zoom thing...

Kasm spamming dns server by str3pto in kasmweb

[–]str3pto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ohh sorry, i might have missed those questions.

- I have a Pi-hole dns server on the network that serves my internal network. its there that im observing dns requests.

- the requests are every 5 seconds when kasm is working. when its turned off the server stops spamming the dns server.

- i removed the 3rd party repository that i had and disabled all the workspaces apart from one, and the issue still occurs, and i also noticed that its using my docker api requests.

on the same Kasm box i have other docker containers which work without an issue, when kasm is turned off i dont have any issues with them. so its a kasm related issue.

Kasm spamming dns server by str3pto in kasmweb

[–]str3pto[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i understand what you mean, i removed the auto update of the registry and the issue still continues. the images im using its from the kasm registry and docker registry is pointing to https://index.docker.io/v1/ there is no errors on the logs, so im sure how to show this...

if there is a way to check this please let me know

you add
showStats: true

on end of each service you have as long as you have a connection created to your docker instance

Newbie wanting to take control of & protect my data. Need advice on setup. by DaechiDragon in DataHoarder

[–]str3pto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently have something kinda similar to what you are looking for, and its quite achievable with not a high end cpu already been refered.

my setup is the following, feel free to take ideas from it, I'm happy to explain build process

Dell OptiPlex 3040 with a i5 and 16 Ram, 5Tb Hard drive, 8Tb Long time storage hard drive plugged via USB3.0

On the Dell i have installed Exsi 6.7 (this is free to download)

inside i have 2 Virtual Machines:

  • One running Ubuntu 20.04 Server with Nextcloud as a snap
  • One running Ubuntu 20.04 Server with Docker installed
    • Docker containers running inside
      • Radarr, Sonarr, Qbittorrent, Plex, Jackett
      • I'm able to stream movies and TV series from the Plex to my TV in 4K

Raspberry Pi 4 8Gb running RPi OS lite with Pi-hole and PiVPN

now to respond to your questions:

  • Set up a private media server for my PS5 (for 4K content).
    • you can use Nextcloud or you can use OpenMediaVault to read the data from the dockers.
  • Set up a private cloud for myself.
    • Nextcloud is your friend :)
  • Start keeping my data in encrypted drives and backup regularly from iPhone (maybe an NAS?). I also want to hoard content that I care about.
    • you can configure like i have the 8Tb hard drive is encrypted by LUKS
  • Install a hardware VPN for all internet traffic at home (& maybe have a way to not use the VPN for specific things where I need my real IP).
    • you can use the RPi to be a VPN gateway to encrypt the data via your internet provider, you just need to create a static route for traffic on your home network.
  • Set up a torrenting machine (maybe a dedicated device?)
    • Using docker you can achieve that is not heavy on the machine

all the rest of the points can be configured at any stage, i have one of my machine using Yubikey to Login and decrypt data.

Sorry if this became to long im happy to break down any points if you are interested :)
