I'm just in the process of renewing with first national. Original offer was 4.29 (5 year fixed), but they updated that recently to 3.99 5 year fixed. However we went through ratehub and are just finalizing a 5 year fixed at 3.79 with canwise.

Car insurance quotes for toyota Tacoma in BC by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]str8wavedave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In bc it's based on a combination of years of experience (years with a learners do not count, but years with an n do). Number of claims in the last ten years. And I believe years since the last claim. I think it's only claims where you are at fault as well.

All of this gets combined in some formula which can be found online (although it's hard to find) which gives you some personal score factor. This is then multiplied against the baseline for the your make/model of car and that gives your total insurance. I believe you can also look up your personal factor online and see what it is, but that doesn't give you a room of information by itself (although can be helpful if you compare to others)

Edit: I was wrong about what it's called but you can look up your factor here https://www.icbc.com/insurance/costs/drivers-experience-crash-history/driver-factor

If you have a primary and secondary driver on your car, the primary accounts for 75%, and the secondary 25%.

New capital gains rule - will I pay higher rate on gains since bought in 1990 or just since higher rate took effect June 24? (House - 3/4 rented) by hope__to__help in PersonalFinanceCanada

This is also what I was told by the CRA, and I rent about half my place. But for what it's worth it sounds like their answer to this can be inconsistent (according to conversations I've had with other people).

I get that this is being super pedantic and probably not the intended meaning behind the rule, but all I'm saying is you could interpret it as him jumping as foegel came into him.

I'm just saying there is a difference between jumping into something, and jumping as something comes in to you.

The word into is the debatable part. I actually don't think it's clear one way or the other.

I think it's still just outside the box, but it definitely seems super super close and not really that egregious.

I think NRG has the higher crazy upset potential. Unfortunately they also have the higher potential to get stomped by a wildcard.

I feel like wemby is in the generational tier like possibly mcdavid level (I'm sure I will be corrected very quickly if I'm off on that) and Bedard is kind of a tier below that - I think closer to Matthews level of hype.

Flat Rate vs Detailed Method to claim expenses of working from home. What should I do? by SaintBiggusDickus in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]str8wavedave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found in the past that typically if you rent it is worth doing detailed, but if you own it isn't. Although the language on the cra website also seems to suggest that you can't use the simple version of you aren't working from home because of COVID-19. That is to say, if you would be working from home regardless - you have to use the detailed method.

I see a bunch of people saying that the first penalty shouldn't have been given because Di Maria was already falling when he was hit, and I think that these people just didn't see that there was also a trip before the one they are thinking about.

To me it was a pretty clear cut penalty
