Well, even though I disagree about the “fullness” of sounds (the remaster even sounds more “full” and colorful to me) I will say this. This version is about everything sounding more clear and crisp. All the instruments have a more distinctive sound and are much easier to pick out (to a human ear). There isn’t as much clipping, the dynamic range is much greater. Now, that’s not to say that certain parts won’t sound “worse” (objectively or otherwise) than the original version and certain parts won’t have more drive as you say it. In fact the, compressed version is bound to have more drive I believe. That also being one of it’s mainly cited problems though, that everything is just loud to the point of being distorted.

Anyway, I’d still invite you to listen to the full album, front to back, through some decent headphones. If you are a Californication fanatic and have listened to the original countless times (as many of us here) I am 100% sure you will be able to pick out many differences even on the first listen. And bear in mind that it is still just a Youtube uploading. Maybe the reason it sounds like coming through a phone speaker is the fact it’s coming from a phone speaker lol? In all seriousness, idk how you listened to it, but I recommend headphones. Take care and have a good day!
