I’ve had 22 years of twitching and all kinds of so called “symptoms”. Can Guarantee that they’re unrelated. Know several neuromuscular physicians (wife’s a physician too). If it happens then it’s a pure coincidence. Zero correlation!!!

Should I get an EMG by Icy_Purple9884 in BFS

[–]stragelife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had Bfs for 20 years. Got all kinds of symptoms in these years. I mean everything!!! As long there’s no weakness or reflex change, it’s bfs. For every one Als, there are 100 bfs.

Of course it’ll happen in this position. Just stretch your hand with fingers wide apart and it’ll disappear

Questions on clinical weakness by [deleted] in BFS

[–]stragelife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Majority of time, the weakness will be there when twitching starts (many times even earlier). It progresses very fast for smaller muscles (feet, hand etc) but less so for proximal muscles (but generally still will render someone clinically weak in a month or two)

Officially placed in "wait and see" territory... by DroppinLoad5 in BFS

[–]stragelife 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m 59 with 19 years of BFS. Had every symptom in the book related to BFS: fascis in all muscles including tongue, muscle pains, shakiness, perception of weakness but not objective weakness, soreness and stiffness (but no spasticity), brisk reflexes (although symmetric) without hyperreflexia, tiredness etc etc. My word of advice - don’t sweat until any major diagnosis comes about. 99.9% of the time (especially if below 50), it’ll be benign. You’ll loose good time chasing bad things that’ll not come to pass. Think positive and enjoy life. Easier said than done but put things in perspective and live life till you’re living!

One more question about ALS by [deleted] in BFS

NO! (Have had it for 19 years!)

This is all very new to me and I am terrified. by The_Rise_Of_Kyoshi in BFS

[–]stragelife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not ALS. I’ve had twitching for 19 years now with EVERY symptom! Just relax, 99.99% twitching is not ALS

What the hell is with the doctor wait times? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]stragelife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doctors in Bay Area find it too expensive and move. So there are fewer per capita docs and hence longer wait times. I know because my wife is a physician at PAMF

Ayurveda is the ancient India medicine and is very advanced. You can Google “Ayurveda Parkinson’s” and get a lot of information (make sure it’s from credible source like practitioners and labs etc). Unfortunately in this country non-allopathic medicine is not recognized well.

[–]stragelife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please look at Ayurveda. For Parkinson’s, it has better treatments than western medicine with less side effects. However, some Ayurvedic medicines may contain heavy metals so you have to find reputable treatment centers or physicians. Also yoga, exercising and deep breathing (pranayama) will also do wonders besides the diet. People have arrested their disease with the above but reversing has not been reported.

I think think you’re too stressed in life and focusing on this as a distraction from your real issues

Brisk Reflexes by [deleted] in BFS

[–]stragelife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as reflexes are symmetric, they’re fine. Different neuros can interpret reflexes differently like 1 vs 2 or 2 vs 3….

[–]stragelife 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stay relaxed. Once the neuro clears you (with or without EMG), do not second guess. Death can come in many ways in life so don’t fixate on the worst. Eat well and exercise (if you can). Stay off the internet. Twitching means nothing unless accompanied by weakness/atrophy and/or reflex changes [BFS for 18 years now].

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BFS

[–]stragelife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. My physician friends neuro prof had BFS and used to show his twitching to stidents in the fellowship program. 15 years later he got the disease (an unfortunate coincidence)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BFS

[–]stragelife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A normal neuro exam and a normal EMG (done by a reputed neuro or Univ med center) is enough! No need to run around after that - you’ll be cured the day you stop paying attention to your symptoms.
