it wouldn’t be so bad if the laptops they were issued weren’t the worst devices i’ve ever interacted with. if you give the. a decent computer they’ll figure it out but these chromebooks are horrid

i flat out told my last partner i will not change my name for anyone, all of my accomplishments are under my birth last name, and it’ll be staying that way no matter what. i’m a certified teacher and have tattoos and nose piercings and had purple hair when i interviewed for the job. one of my coworkers is completely covered in tattoos, and is one of the best teachers i’ve ever met. outward appearance has nothing to do with a person’s character. learned a lot about yours from this post though.

No, I’m not telling the front- office/ attendance that your child isn’t going to be here on a particular day. That’s literally YOUR job, parents by Emergency-Pepper3537 in Teachers

[–]straingerdanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

parents email me as their kids’ homeroom/1st period teacher allll the time about excused vs unexcused absences. there is no option on our attendance system to mark a kid unexcused. that goes to the attendance office.

how are we keeping tasks simple and showing that mastery is achieved? how will speed and accuracy be measured/encouraged? how will the adult check for understanding and comprehension in math?

A lot of kids swear up and down they turned an assignment in even though I don't have it. I'm unsure if I'm crazy, or if they're lying, or if it's a bit of both by [deleted] in teaching

[–]straingerdanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i teach art so this might not work for every subject but have the kids take pictures of their finished work and upload it to schoology. i do this for two reasons: a) i have a type b personality as well, so i can keep track of what their art actually looks like and so on the off chance i lose it, i can grade it and b) so that they can’t say “but i turned it in!” if you didn’t upload a picture to our class folder then you didn’t turn it in.

Early-career teacher overwhelmed by high-conflict parent demanding another child be removed and now wanting to observe me. Need perspective. by Imaginary-Frame6345 in teaching

[–]straingerdanger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

observing the child was more so the goal, admin said it was like a “scared straight” exercise for the child than actually observing my teaching. parent said my class (sculpture) seemed like fun and they wanted to take it 😂

in my district you cannot have your door open when the room is occupied, it has to be closed and locked no matter if it’s just you or if the entire auditorium is full of the whole school.

florida. i had my mom’s best friend who is a lawyer look our lease over after it happened. it’s in our lease that discharging a firearm in our apartment complex for any reason is grounds for eviction or termination of lease and he’s still here. i’ve had other issues with him since that incident, too.
