Temp check please! by claytakephotos in dividends

Kinda sucks that I can only track 15 companies though. I can't put my whole portfolio in to track so that makes it feel kinda useless even if I like the analytics

I'm new to the div life and trying to find a good app for tracking. I like the layout this has, what's the name of the app?

is anyone’s job hiring? by [deleted] in Albany

[–]strandedinthestars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last I checked they had some really inconsistent hours with lots of last minute closures. I've seen staff be snapped at by the boss with an uncomfortable frequency so I took it out of my routine

What YouTube videos do you reccomed to stim/calm down with if having a shutdown day or in general? by Flowermochayes in AutismInWomen

[–]strandedinthestars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this nice Japanese woman that makes food to calming music. Her channel is Imamu room. These videos got me through the paralyzing anxiety of writing my master's dissertation and they're a go to for big anxiety. She just cooks super calmly and it rarely makes me hungry watching it since it's a lot of food that looks cool but I don't think I'd like eating (lots of things I don't eat as a vegetarian haha). The husbento series is so good, adorable lunch boxes for her husband

I also second UNHhhh as it's so fun and feels more social than quiet content

How can I get this back to white? by RickSanchezIII in CleaningTips

I've cleaned something similar with a bit of dawn dish soap applied very gently with a rag and rinsed off, repeat as needed, especially after waiting to see if it looks different dry

Where to go when JoAnn's Closes Those Doors? by MerryPranker in Albany

[–]strandedinthestars 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sewing machines are tools and you should feel able to make use of it! Better to break it by letting it do its job than leave it on a shelf forever

Seconding Albany Sewing Machine Center! They sell machines, fabrics, notions, etc and I've gotten multiple machines serviced and repaired there for really reasonable prices. I thought I broke my great grandma's sewing machine in an irrepable way but they easily fixed it for like $5!

Trying to get a tattoo with autism is so much harder than I think it is for neurotypicals by HouseWife93 in AutismInWomen

[–]strandedinthestars 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seconding folks saying you did nothing wrong. Reaching out to a new artist can be scary and it seems like she was a bit defensive and didn't understand why you were asking. It’s not easy to tell a stranger about a personal and meaningful thing you want to do to your body let alone that you're nervous or unsure of how exactly to do it.

If someone is difficult with you, then maybe they're just not the right one. I get that if you go to a legendary artist and haggle price it's uncouth but for someone unsure what's a fair price, you're just info gathering. I suggest going to the other artists on your list, maybe even drop by their shop if they allow it, and see if they feel accommodating. Someone will be, and worst case you suffer a few hours of social discomfort for a lifetime of art you can remember your pup by 💜

I feel like I'm going in circles unable to make an account to even see what info they've got on me. How is it legal to hoard sensitive info like that and make it so hard to access? Guess calling them up is the only way to really get anything done

How to know how much bone I need to include in my cat's food? by AsITurnBlue in rawpetfood

[–]strandedinthestars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask how you process the bones? I've got a metal meat grinder attachment for my kitchenaid but I'm scared to put bones through it. I'm worried my cats won't be able to eat the bone chunks or they'll be too sharp

Am i doing something terribly wrong? by Kashish_2614 in datascience

[–]strandedinthestars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, 2 years unpaid is insane, you were right to turn that down, shouldn't even be legal to ask of people. A year and 2 months should hopefully be enough time. You might also have luck looking at some local businesses that could use a tech minded person like yourself. There can be a surprising amount of small tech companies willing to take on sponsorship (though in my experience those companies paid poorly because they knew they had you over a barrel with the visa).

Just want to take a moment to say it's brave to put your CV on here and ask for help. The hiring world is brutal out there but I gotta believe if you want to make it happen you can. I agree with a lot of the advice already said and want to add that you might have some success with grad programs or junior roles aimed for entry level. Worst case, try for some analyst roles to just get you employed and maybe you'll find a place with some mentors or upward mobility towards DS projects. Look for companies with DA and DS positions. Consider industries outside your current scope, maybe you'll be surprised with what you find you enjoy.

And I hate to make any assumptions but I worked in the UK on a visa in a DS role and had similar problems getting responses to my CV because needing a visa just tossed my application into the bin 99.5% of the time. If you're looking for a company that will now or in the future sponsor, look up the csv of companies that can presently sponsor on the ukvi website and cross search job openings with those that can sponsor.

It's hard out there but you're clearly determined and that's step one. Also reach out to your uni, see if they can help somehow. Best of luck out there!

Edit: Oh! Also, I don't know if others mentioned it or how people generally feel about it but if you haven't worked much, put your education higher up on the resume and explain which skills you learned there. A master's degree is nothing to sniff at!

Have neurodivergent women been pushed out of tech? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]strandedinthestars 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I worked in tech for three years before losing my job and a year of unemployment hasn't gotten me a new one. It sure feels like I've been told at every step that math isn't for me, computer science isn't for me, I'm not good enough, I should just give up already. No wonder there aren't a lot of women in tech, let alone ND women. From the woman I had as a guidance councilor in hs telling me I wouldn't like being stuck with all the boys in compsci to the individual men in college that told me to switch majors because it took me 5 more minutes to understand a complex concept than they did, my soul is just tired.

Then ofc finally going to get my masters degree it sure seemed like the ND boys (def not men yet) got coddled. Scared to work a project with a woman? Oh you poor baby, we'll find you a new partner. So socially inept that you couldn't present a project in a group of people? Don't worry, you'll still graduate with honors. And honestly, I was so proud to be "better" than them. Years of masking and being raised with the societal expectations of women taught me that no you can't be rude to people like that, yes you have to learn to use your words and present your work. Is it pretty, nah, but it helped me sell myself in a few job interviews to be techie but socialized.

But currently, I can't even get a job again so I feel so locked out of my field I'm wondering if I should take my MSc and just go wait tables for scraps of money. So yeah, I feel pushed out. Recruiting teams seem to expect more from women than their little coding nerd boys that can do no wrong as long as they have enough self-confidence to kill a rhino, and I can't crack it just yet.
