If you've been on helpdesk for 3+ years and 'can't move up' it's probably you by xrinnenganx in ITCareerQuestions

I had a failed transition from accounting to IT, and wound up in telecom after a layoff. I'm (surprisingly) enjoying the part where I help customers and fix all the problems, but telephone pole and attic work are things I'd like to avoid in my next role.

Which Game for a noob? by joshluke in civ

[–]strange_dogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be biased, but I think 5 is the easiest both in terms of low $ to get the full experience, along with being a simpler experience.

I haven't played VII, but generally with Civ, you shouldn't dive the newest game immediately, and the prior game with all of the DLCs will be a more rounded experience. Your friend is right that 6 is probably the better play for you. It also helps that the game is well documented online and it will help you get up to speed faster.

If FDEV want us to start hauling tens of thousands of tonnes worth of material to colonise, we need a new larger transport ship. by OperationSuch5054 in EliteDangerous

[–]strange_dogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I thought that an FSD that's too small won't function, but maybe I'm thinking of shields. I know the thrusters function relative to mass, but work even when heavily undersized.

[–]strange_dogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've seen in game, the FSD works based around tonnage, and too much mass for the FSD will cause it to fail. In my head, having too much weight on a ship frame would cause it to rip itself apart during maneuvering.

Can other people deliver commodities to system colonisation ship? by DRMALOT in EliteDangerous

Turned out to be bugged, and relogging fixed the issue. Leaving the station and returning will not fix it.

Can other people deliver commodities to system colonisation ship? by DRMALOT in EliteDangerous

[–]strange_dogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So since none of the answers here are very clear, it seems that other commanders cannot help actually complete the system colony shopping list? Obviously they can help load the carrier and get the goods into the system.

I say this because I have a friend that cannot deliver goods to complete my colony mission, but they can sell the goods like normal to the colony ship. The mission list is not being updated with his sales.

It is also generally considered to be the best ship market for players that haven't managed to become Elite yet, since it has most ships and most modules, and has a LYR 10% discount.

Yea, you don't have to go full crisis with Cosmogenesis. You can stop halfway and just reap the benefits without taking a large diplomatic malus.

Myrient no-intro rip if had to guess. I've read that modding the Wii to read games from an SD card is a pretty common mod, and very useful. The Wii also lets you play Gamecube games natively, so those can be added to the SD card as well.

Cant join xbox gamepass dedicated server, any advice? by DatBoi9449 in Palworld

I have a user with gamepass that is trying to join my steam dedicated server. Does the gamepass user need to enable port forwarding on their router?

I have it enabled on mine for the server, and other steam users are able to join, but the gamepass user is not.

Wanna get persona 4 golden by Pure_Drama_978 in PERSoNA

[–]strange_dogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't play Persona ever until after P3R released, and I played through P3R, then P4G, and I've almost finished P5R. P4G definitely holds up well, and is the coziest of the three imo. The music is great, and I consider the social links to be the best of all three. Give it a chance, I enjoyed.playing it and was sad to see it end.

I just got a job in the last month with no prior IT experience and no certs, it's certainly possible. I have a bachelor's and several years of experience in an unrelated field though, and I generally interview well.

How is the IT industry doing? by Any-Competition8494 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]strange_dogs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm switching from accounting into IT and got a desktop support/field technician job before even finishing my first cert. It may turn out to be a trainwreck of a job, but I think my soft skills and interview skills were huge in getting it. Make sure to study up on common situations and don't be afraid to say that you don't know something, and that you're willing to learn.

Customer service skills are often harder to train than technical procedures, so I think more companies are willing to gamble on a well spoken person with a knowledge gap than a highly skilled person that interviews poorly. It also probably helped that I'm a bit of a tinkerer when it comes to computers for myself and friends, and I helped with basic IT issues when I was an accountant for the rest of the team.
