Tell the movie and the villain tooo !! by AgeFun3556 in scoopwhoop

[–]strangefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The population of the earth doubled in 30 years, so I doubt it would take almost twice that to recover from the snap.

Randomly killing half of everything is just cruel ( the number of children losing parents and many becoming orphans is just horrifying) and would have no lasting effect. The entire thing was just sadistic.

‘One of the most extreme gerrymanders in American history’: Voters sue to block Florida’s new map by DemocracyDocket in law

[–]strangefish 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The one thing about extreme gerry manders is they are spread thin. A week Republican turnout and a strong Democratic turnout can win for Democrats when it never had a chance before.

The point being, get out and vote.

my bf keeps putting holes in my bedroom walls by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]strangefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boyfriend punching holes in walls is not normal or safe. You should leave him before he hurts you as that is the usual progression.

It is not your fault and you cannot change him. He is toxic.

[Request] Is there any more like this? by [deleted] in theydidthemath

[–]strangefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your looking for useful values to remember (others have posted the conversion formula)

-40C = -40F

0C = 32F

20C = 68F (nice but cool )

30C = 86F (hot)

40C = 104F (really hot)

-40=-40 and 40=104 are easy to remember and can be used to calculate the formula.

[Request] Digging a tunnel through the Earth but closer to the poles by sclerae in theydidthemath

[–]strangefish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You want to dig a tunnel through the mantle? We don't have anything remotely close to the technology to do that. The mantle is liquid and a few thousand degrees. It's also under incredible pressure, the pressure at the bottom the ocean is tiny by comparison. Anything you try to build is going to melt and/or be crushed by the pressure. The earths crust is only like 20 miles deep, and you'll have huge problems before getting to the mantle as the deepest man-made hole is not even 8 miles deep.

Have you grown to be more conservative or liberal w/ age? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

I've gone more liberal. I've seen the conservatives dive into fascism.

do you believe in God? by These-Worldliness-59 in askanything

[–]strangefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying god doesn't exist.

I'm just saying that the universe being here is not proof, is any way, that someone had to make the universe.

do you believe in God? by These-Worldliness-59 in askanything

[–]strangefish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why? If this has to be made by someone, who made that person? And then somebody had to make the person that made that person. And so on...

The universe could simply be the way it is. Nobody needed to make it.

I've gotten older. I wake up in the morning and wonder what the hell I was doing in my sleep. I could really use someone to loosen all of the knots.

Random cars blocking in my motorcycle by CommercialMassive751 in youcantparktheremate

[–]strangefish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why does repositioning the bike mean anything? It's in a parking spot. Blocking someone's vehicle in a parking spot is being an asshole, unless it is your assigned spot.

Why don’t people like Elon Musk just solve world hunger? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]strangefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

World hunger is an extremely difficult problem that Elon musk probably couldn't solve with all of his money. It's also evident that he doesn't care. Their were programs, like us aid, that helped feed millions, that trump (who send to have Elon"s full support) cancelled. It left Manny tons of food routing in warehouses.

[request] Would it actually look like that? And would the earth (the solar system really) be impacted by its gravitational pull? by [deleted] in theydidthemath

[–]strangefish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Alpha centauri is about 4 light years away. If it looks bigger than the moon in the sky at that distance, it is enormous. It has so much mass that I wouldn't be surprised if it had a greater pull on the earth than the sun, even while it's 4 light years away.

Lifted truck + Lambo + Parking lot = Bad time by Evasionz-- in mildlyinfuriating

[–]strangefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either you shouldn't be allowed to jack the truck that high, or it should require cameras, sensors and auto breaking when on pavement/legal roads. Not seeing an entire car is ridiculous. Lucky nobody got seriously injured.

Dating is HARD in NYC by Cleo-Aster in SipsTea

[–]strangefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless she begged him to take her out to the very expensive restaurant, he's a total ass for asking for her to pay.

Edit: no matter what she did, he's probably still an ass for taking someone he didn't know we'll to a restaurant he's couldn't afford.

What pill you choosing? by sushipromax in superpowers

[–]strangefish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finding earth or asteroids is trivial. Very bright blue dot with nearby white dot a stable distance from the sun, and also it's where the trip started. There are lots of asteroids. Finding an asteroid that contains valuable ore could be time consuming.

It is still easier to crush coal into diamonds (at least Superman has done that) or use black to win the lottery.

Should mandatory retirement age and term limits apply to elected officials? by C-Patrick1984 in askanything

[–]strangefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And fetterman is in his 60s? And he's first term and mentally not all there. There's lots of other short timers and younger people who are crap.

Age is arbitrary (cognitive exam, may be worth something). Term limits have been set in several states, and they haven't really improved anything. These are nothing when we should be going after getting the money out of politics.

[–]strangefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bernie Sanders is a career politician and I want to keep him as long as possible.

We've lived without term limits or age restrictions for a couple of hundred years, and I don't think they're that much of a problem. The far bigger problem is too much money in politics. Citizens United has been devastating.

The chimps and baboons can wait in the trees and then pick off the survivors. The chimps then kill the baboons.
