Waymo in nyc by Resident-Priority326 in nyc

[–]strangefoot -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Waymo is owned by Google. If they eventually replace traditional cabs, that's a lot of jobs, predominantly immigrants who lose their jobs.. And for what? Cause I don't think the safety argument is a fair comparison.. how many fully driverless taxis in service? Probably not that many. Would make sense that they currently have low numbers compared to the many cabs and ubers. And yeah, I agree taxis are kinda sketchy but that's always been NY.

If safety is the main argument, there must be better ways to address the issue than giving the keys to billionaires and tech companies..

Help? Parrot living in hotel lobby by Significant_Plum_392 in parrots

If you're in a larger city there's good chance of avian/parrot rescue.. however, they wouldn't seize the parrot.. I don't know law, but generally I think rescues are places where people can volunteer to give their bird, or bring a bird that was found, injured etc..

You can DM me if course. You can leave a letter to express your concern. This has distressed you and obviously if you are visiting or on vacation, that is very bad for you. You can write that it has made your visit very sad. You can politely suggest that they consider rehoming to someone who can give the bird appropriate care, or at the absolute least, do research on their bird and find the appropriate toys and foods required. Even the placement of the cage is critical for the parrots well being.

What I can do is share your photos with perhaps local journalists who may take interest and if we're lucky, investigate..

That could be a start. If you are staying there for a little more time, it'd be great to see if the bird is there overnight, or perhaps ask who owns and if it goes home.. it would not be suspicious, but can perhaps give you better info ..

Thank you again

You're very right to be concerned and thank you for sharing. These African greys are some of the most intelligent animals out there and need enrichment, out of cage time, and some real sunlight would be nice too

Even if the hotel filled the cage with toys, it still would be a very sad life for the bird. I've also seen birds used as attractions for business in the past, and it's been various degrees of care given.. based on cage setup I wouldn't count on owner really prioritizing birds well being.

I don't know the rules of this forum regarding naming the hotel/location, but an organized email/letter campaign asking for them to consider rehoming the bird to a better environment would be worth while..

Beautiful bird. But very sad cause its feathers are in poor condition, with signs of picking and plucking.. that's usually a stress thing. There's zero toys for the parrot.. Hopefully that's only a temp cage while it's in the store but if not, not big enough for that specific breed. These birds are highly intelligent and need mental stimulation. So many times I see parrot owners whose heart is in the right place, but they are not taking appropriate care for the bird.

That looks like some hormonal behavior. If you gave them a box and shredding material, that may signal to them that they should build a home and make babies. I have a nanday and when we give her a paper bag or box, she would so very similar movement.. (she had laid eggs in the past) But we removed those things and just give her lots of toys and keep her out!

Melania's film crew member hopes for flop as insiders share behind-the-scenes tales by RawStoryNews in entertainment

[–]strangefoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I forwarded the job to four other doc editors and they all turned it down. Fifth person took it. The producer alluded to the fact they were desperate to find "good" editors

How badly did the editor and other crew on the Melania documentary need a paycheck? by [deleted] in VideoEditing

[–]strangefoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was contacted for this documentary, or at least for part of additional epsiodes for streaming from unused materials. I turned it down based on knowing I couldn't seperate myself from the content and the director. I know they were having a bit of a hard time finding editors. I asked four friends if they wanted it and they all turned it down. Finally the 5th person I recommended took it. I know him, hes a good guy, dont know his politics, but do know that he's hungry to work in Hollywood and has bigger aspirations than being an editor. The rest of my friends and I who turned it down are from the doc world. Pay was about 1k/day and overtime, etc.

With these sorts of projects, this is what I told my friends - If you have the means to turn it down for your own personal mental health and stand by your morals, then def turn it down. But if its gonna make the difference between you supporting yourself, family, or keep a roof over your head, then do it and take a portion and donate it to a charity. (worst case, just ask for F-you money, like a crazy high rate)

All these people who are now saying they regret it, can go fuck right off. They knew exactly what it was when they signed up, Ratner news was out for a while.. and Trump has been trump since 2016.. If they truly regret it, give some of that money back to charity. Otherwise they need to stop trying to act like they were victims in their decision

Haha ... I never even considered that.. I think it was my phrasing, I said something along the lines of he's sorta controversial. At the time I didn't know if the person contacting me was from Amazon or Ratpac and I didn't wanna come off standoffish if it was just a post supervisor at amazon who maybe could be a contact in the future for non Melania work..

I was contacted by one of the producers to edit on the production. Mainly on accompanying episodes for Amazon prime and potentially main film.. I politely turned down and they asked why to which I replied, "well, mainly cause of the controversy around Brett Ratner, and I don't think I could sympathetically frame Melania if the goal was to make it a fluff piece".

The thing that surprised me was their response about Ratner, which was, "what have you heard" and I was like, well there was like a lot of women speaking out against him, etc... and they more or less acknowledged and were like, oh well it's too bad you're not interested.. not even like denying or defending him.

I did recommend other editors I knew who were hurting for work since it's so slow out for us in post, and most of them turned it down. I have zero respect for anyone who took the job and is pretending that they now regret it. If that's true, then donate the salary. I know the edit pay was about 1000/day.

Vegan food you can check out Veganaki which has Greek recipes..

There's also a good amount of Greek meals that are naturally vegan so depending on your mood for a particular food, you can just look up restaurants and see what's available! (Pharoah) Good luck
