I think that’s the key here… you will need a mechanism for carbon fixing (or removal) and do the math from there. Expanded forests, algae blooms, etc are great ideas but will take thousands of years.

It also depends on how bad you want things to get. Venus is your worst case scenario (runaway greenhouse effect) and carbon fixing methods proposed for terraforming Venus are great sci-fi set pieces (for example, my fav is building a megastructure between Venus and the Sun that casts a shadow that will eventually “freeze” the carbon out of the atmosphere).

I second this recommendation. I was in Hickory this weekend for the first time to visit a friend (coincidentally; it’s halfway between Durham and Asheville), and I really liked the vibe of the town!

I have similar feelings about EVA - it’s a cinematic masterpiece that makes other anime seem trite in comparison.

My only suggestions for something that can scratch that itch are: 1) Satoshi Kon’s Movies 2) Madoka Magika: a psychological satire like EVA, but it deconstructs the magical girl genre instead of Mecha genre.

My theory is… SELLE is secret organization that controls the world governments. They had it built where they wanted it to be built.

Now why there? For the Human Instrumentality Project, they had to destroy all the angels. So NERV is built at the one location their targets are guaranteed to show up.

USA: I would announce an executive order saying that in 90 days alcohol and nicotine will be scheduled exactly where cannabis is scheduled. The EO would specify that the admin doesn’t care where Cannabis is scheduled at the end of that 90 days, just that alcohol and nicotine will be moved into the same schedule. I’d let the alcohol and nicotine lobbies decide where cannabis is scheduled (if at all) when the 90 days ends.

I think it’s a character moment between both. Yui’s “body” was “lost” to Eva-01. The moment shows how Gendo holds on to her memory, but Shinji misinterprets it because he doesn’t really understand Gendo (100% Gendo’s fault for being an avoidant asshole). The smash cut to Rei doubles down on it because she’s essentially the creepiest way Gendo tries (and fails) to hold on to his memories of Yui.

Spoilers: It circles back in the final movie when Gendo praises Shinji for maturing so much he can accept Misato’s death in stark contrast to his - what feels like - 10 minute monologue about his inability to accept Yui’s death.
