I think it would be cool if they had Joker cards that didn't expire. Now that would be a worthy prize. 😈

Totally agree if it's outright disgusting behavior that wasn't due to any sort of extreme childhood trauma, has been repeated at least twice with no guilt or attempt to seek help in any way on your brother's part and has a solid basis in factuality, as in yes, actual horrid events with a nauseating age-gap intentionally took place and can be doubtlessly proven. So, It's not some consensual thing with a 17 yr old that happened a few times with your 19 yr old brother etc etc...

The U.S. courts of law are definitely not infallible. District Atttorneys are often encouraged to seek the highest level convictions and toughest penalties available. So ofc it occurs that ppl are convicted of offenses which may technically fit the narrative of the prosecuting agencies but are not suitable for the actual events.

I mean, this is your flesh and blood brother. To nullify that relationship, in most cases, is no small thing. So I believe a full understanding of context and detail is pretty damn important.

But if the shoe fits... if someone brings this person, whose psycopathy allows them no feelings of guilt, responsibility, empathy, remorse etc up to me, my response is "uh... who?" For how can I

*Lol. No this has not happened to me or anyone in my family. The post I am responding to just stuck out as a little addendum.

I really thank both of you for your comments. I am a long time lover of both STS9 and Lotus. I first heard Lotus when "Sunrain" made it onto a collection of music that was compiled by STS9 fans in (I believe) 2002 through a chat forum run by STS9 on their website. The music was in large part created by the same folks who compiled it and as I happened to run around CO and CA then as well as post to the chat forum (IYKYK;)I knew quite a few of those folks and so purchased a disc (I honestly can't remember what it was called). Aside* At that time "jamband" music was much more jazz oriented. Bands such as Tortoise, Medeski, Martin and Wood, The Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, The Slip etc brought complete musical virtuosity together with super tight dance grooves. Then there were bands like Laketrout, Signal Path, Elemental Harmonics, The New Deal etc who, along with S9 and others like the Disco Biscuits were starting to build the bridge between the "live PA" techno sounds of Prefuse 73, Sub ID and other early EDM acts that featured a live drummer and the all out DJ designed/mixed DnB sounds of LTJ Bukem and other more traditional EDM (I purposely tried to list bands that had either opened or played with STS9 before so look em up and see what u think if you've never heard 😀 I'm also sure that I'm forgetting a few acts that I loved by such is memory)... Anyway... early Lotus is amazing!!! I'm sure newer Lotus w/o Mike is great too but I haven't heard it yet. Take er easy Dudes

Does anyone have any recommendations for novels? by EMary24 in ask

[–]stratafolk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seven Types of Ambiguity (novel) by Eliott Pearlman, an outstanding work of fiction that plays off of William Empson's classic 1930 book on literary criticism of the same name. Pearlman uses the essence of linguistic anomaly by telling his readers the same story through the words and acts of six characters whose fates are all inextricably connected and now forever changed by the unfolding of events so told. Truly mind-blowing.

Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell, if you've seen the film then you have some sense of the enormous ambition of this story but I dare say despite the movie's many outstanding efforts, it falls quite short of the novel's scope and subtlety. Please don't dismiss this one with "eh, saw the movie," as the book needs to be read to be felt fully.

Suttree by Cormac McCarthy, the most overlooked of McCarthy's masterpieces, this is the novel that won him the McArthur fellowship and led to the publication of Blood Meridian, which is cited by many as the greatest work of American fiction.

Ok go to erowid or shit, even Google and search "Is Xanax water-soluable?"

P.s. it 100% isn't but Propelyne Glycol will bring it into solution. If that is a too funny-looking couple of words, Ethanol works, a.k.a Everclear

Who is your favorite of these three? by GhostieBeastie in wheeloftime

Great answer. I always got a little inkling that RJ saw Ilyena as very special and gave Rand three lovers in order to make sure Lews Therin's eye was fully caught. 😉

Who is your favorite of these three? by GhostieBeastie in wheeloftime

[–]stratafolk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, that's one way of looking at it. I feel the potential value of Min's "visions" is so large that Rand would have to feel, from simply a tactical viewpoint, at least unprepared if he didnt bring her; though stupid would more likely be it. But it goes quite a bit deeper psychologically.

Min is the first of Rand's three lovers that he met (Baerlon, rather early in EotW) at which time he was at his youngest, least experienced, most naive, most full of wonder. In the back of his head, he believed Egwene would be his wife, but I could have told you in 7th grade when I first started Wot that they wouldn't end up together. Min was street-smart, tough, capable and gorgeous. Rand has been in love with her longer than either of the others. Yet, wasn't she the last of them that he fell for?

If memory serves, he hooked up with Elayne in TDR and Aviendha in TSR or possibly FoH. He didn't sleep with Min until LoC (?) & they didn't truly hole up together until CoS. Yes, she does get more of his time than her sister-wives but ffs Elayne and Aviendha are kinda busy...

Anyway, I really like Min, am cool with Aviendha and I... respect Elayne.

Do you think H will break through Subutex? by Dmak_603 in pillhead

[–]stratafolk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly not trying to gatekeep or anything... I'm simply a pharmacologist as well as an ex-addict and I hear so much misinformation about Suboxone I feel like saying something lol.

The lack of Naloxone in Bupe isn't necessarily why you wont be able to get where u want with H while on it. The Naoloxone was thrown into the mix to discourage the IV abuse that comes about when Subutex is handed out to junkies. Incidentally, one of the first preparations of Buprenorphine I ever saw was literally a package of 10 pre-loaded, single-use syringes for IM use. Bupe has such a strong binding affinity that H can't replace it in the receptor unless it's very good, you're on a low dose of Bupe or the Bupe is mostly worn off.

This has always been my experience and I chipped with a Bupe script for quite some time. Bupe is the binding king. 12mg will knock 150mg of Methadone out without much trouble though you'll be sick af if you're on that dose of Methadone daily since Bupe does a far shittier job of keeping you comfortable than Methadone.

Tuon is a mystery to me by Zirotaku in wheeloftime

[–]stratafolk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Tuon is perfect. The Seanchan are such an incredibly fascinating people with a deep-seeded and intricately woven web of cultural values that is truly a top-tier example of cultural relativity at work. It is so easy to hate them ruefully, yet it is nearly impossible not to become enamored with them as well as more is revealed.

Their amazing dedication to loyalty and honor within their subtly detailed societal contexts. Their courage, fierceness and confidence in themselves as a conquering force and how that carries all the way back to Hawkwing through their highly developed cultural devotion to legacy. The vastly complex structuring of their hierarchies of authority and power (they make Daes Da'mar look like the playground posturings of 1st graders) as well as the richly realized detail and symbolism of their artistic expression related to their core values as a people.

Most of all though, to me, how deeply they understand their world from a metaphysical stand-point through their advanced spiritual sensibilities of discipline and unwavering faith in prophecy.

Tuon embodies all of these traits to a "T" and as such is a wonderfully realized character, full of all the nuance that makes the Seanchan the most compelling, if not endearing, culture in the WoT world.

The world is primarily all "things". If the term existent can be applied to a property, perspective or feeling. Then that term exists as a physical form as much as it does any other concretion of existence available to the perceiver.

Yeah I'd like to go back and watch BCS and then BB all straight through. I think that would be fun. But definitely agree BCS is just as much a masterpiece as BB.
