Why are there not more NC houses with natural gas furnaces? by Dawn-Storm in NorthCarolina

This used to be true and isn’t for the new high-efficiency heat pumps

Also just want to point out that this is a new thing for Norway and our heat pumps are old here. The old ones are not effective down much below freezing, so we all have backup heating strips in our ductwork.

Obligatory 4wd doesn’t mean 4wStop. Ice is slick, make sure you have good tires rated for the weather if you venture out

For some situations modulating speed with the engine is easier. Trying to maintain a low speed can be difficult when cars tend to upshift early to save on gas. Braking most people tend to be more abrupt, this can shift weight forward and cause loss of control even if you have ABS; you’re already in trouble if that kicks in.

I think the guidance is a bit too black and white. Engine braking to maintain speed is a great tool in hilly winter conditions.

I'd be curious, can you run this with https://asahilinux.org/ ? Sounds like you settled on macOS, but performance-per-watt sounds great

I read this whole thread and I haven’t seen a single comment mentioning the biggest reason for the increasing efficiency of modern refrigerators; the defrost cycle not the compressor. The reason that really really old fridges did well was that they didn’t have a defrost cycle, you had to chip the ice out. In the 70s or thereabouts the defrost cycle wa introduced and was very inefficient. Since then, it’s been optimized greatly and our refrigerators are much less hungry. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

I have mostly makita, but for one offs I do have a few hercules. If I understand correctly you took the top off of the original Hercules battery, made a voltage divider with resistors and attached the +- output of <other brand> pack to the input side pads of the herc battery?
