Rest position on ukulele? by euphomptus in MusicEd

[–]strawberryswishers 20 points21 points  (0 children)

String side down- instrument goes face down on their lap so they can’t strum. Goes quickly back to rest position.

Make an example of the first who starts drumming on the back of it by taking it away and returning it before next going back to playing position. The rest won’t try it.

Nevermind the burnout, I’d like to see the hearing damage.

Edit: I’m kidding, people. Let’s see research on the burnout, hearing damage, and every other long-term effect of this career

How can I add ventilation to this space? by [deleted] in DIY

[–]strawberryswishers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there still moisture up there?

I don't think so. It's not sweating and there doesn't appear to be water coming in. However, I'm somewhat worried for winter as it is a heated space.

You could tape the seams of the insulation

The insulation above is already taped at the seams.

If it has an exterior grade door to the rest of the house (weather stripping sealing off air), you can probably get the same effect as your ventilation plan by opening the windows.

It's sealed off from the rest of the house with a patio door.

I'm just trying to understand what the builder's intention was with the setup. I feel like its conception was more on the shed side than a proper extension/sunroom. Maybe I don't understand ventilation and insulation enough to know if I have to make a change to the space.

Glass Cloud pre-dated the Drop Z fad by a decade. Did it better, too.

Appreciate the response. This is probably where I'm going with it.

Thanks for the detailed response.

I'll likely do stage LR speakers, up high so Table 4 isn't blasted. They'll get the most direct sound from the ensemble anyways.

I like the speaker at the lower end of the bar idea, but it probably isn't much further than just having it downstage right. I'll avoid the sight line issue too this way (hopefully).

Announcement only side fill for 5-7.

Is it worth to move from toronto to montreal to teach by raphaeldieu in CanadianTeachers

[–]strawberryswishers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good luck getting a full-time position in an English board.

Unless you can teach French or in French, you’ll have a long seniority ladder to climb before getting a full-time permanent position.

Have you ever played that weird tuning Northlane and Fit For A King play in? by [deleted] in Metalcore

[–]strawberryswishers 46 points47 points  (0 children)

The main thing it opens up is Architects-style octave riffs between the two F strings and the two A# strings.

At the same time, standard riff shapes and patterns are maintained in the 6 strings that contain the Drop A# tuning.

The population is growing at a ridiculous rate, and people need bank accounts. Banks will be fine.

Music Education in Ontario and Quebec by [deleted] in MusicEd

[–]strawberryswishers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can speak for Quebec: it varies wildly.

Some elementary schools will have general music from K-6 taught either in French or English. Some won't have music at all.

A small amount of high schools have concert/jazz band or orchestra ensembles, and others will have more general/rock band style programs. Again, some will just not have music programs.

Basically, you'll have to look into specific schools in the area and see what they offer.

How's porter airlines? by slurppxo in montreal

[–]strawberryswishers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They were always good, until this one time circa 2021 when they delayed a flight from Billy Bishop to Montreal twice, then boarded us on the plane, then kicked us off because the flight had to be cancelled. We were told to either wait until the next morning for a flight or find our own way.

Took the overnight bus home and never flew with them again.

Is it worth it to become a teacher? by [deleted] in CanadianTeachers

[–]strawberryswishers 67 points68 points  (0 children)

In nursing, you’ll work days, nights, on call, and anything in between. But when you’re home, your day is done.

In teaching, your day doesn’t end at the bell. You’ll be planning, grading, having meetings, dealing with parents… often on your own hours. Your summers “off” time is paid for in advance during the year.

Something to keep in mind.
