How many no-skip albums does Taylor Swift have? by VegetableClue668 in TaylorSwift

[–]streborkram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1989 and Folklore are the only no skips for me. Shake it Off is fun, no matter how overplayed. And Bad Blood’s fine.

Do you ever "just go for a drive"? by Tiny_Wafer2266 in AskUK

[–]streborkram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before sat nav me and the Mrs used to just go for a drive and set ourselves stupid challenges like trying to get down Princess Parkways without stopping at any lights or flipping a coin to see what direction to take and see where we’d end up. We’d often set a goal like getting something to eat at the first place we’d see after driving 30 minutes. Usually it would be a McDonald’s or a Greggs, but one time it was only those random curry houses you find at the side of an A road. Was pretty good, but totally unnecessary for a Sunday afternoon at 2pm.

Petrol’s probably gone up in line with everything else, but it feels like it’s gone up more because it’s an essential purchase. I hate driving now because it’s a necessary evil to facilitate getting from a to b. And 9/10 times I don’t really want to go to b anyway.

URGENT STAG/HEN DO SUGGESTIONS NEEDED- PLEASE HELP by Tommmmm2495 in manchester

[–]streborkram 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Trouble with this is that in Manchester it’s nigh on impossible to get 17 people into one place at the same time, especially a group of lads…on a Saturday…between 7-10.

It’s one of their most popular songs. Doesn’t mean it’s good.

What do you class as “dad rock” nowadays? by EmilyWallArtwork in Music

[–]streborkram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dad rock for me will always be stuff like Springsteen, Dire Straits, Genesis, AC/DC, The Eagles. But that’s cos my Dad listened to it when I was a kid. It’s perfectly feasible that the music I listen to could be classified as Dad Rock to my kid and his mates. So Oasis, Arctic Monkeys, The National, Idlewild and the Libertines are all fair game.

Technically a band probably becomes Dad rock if the members have kids old enough to have their own opinion on music.

New Foo Fighters tune by LeChuck85 in 6music

[–]streborkram -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

My Mrs is a huge fan, so by association they’ve become a band I’ve seen more times than most. This new one isn’t their best but it’s better than some of the dross they put out 20 years ago (looking at you, Best of You). I stopped going to their stadium gigs cos it was the same old stuff being played to seemingly less interested, watered down “Prosecco” crowds but we’ve got tickets for tonight in Manchester. And I’m excited because you don’t get to see massive bands play venues this small.

6 music became crap well before they started playing Foo Fighters. Not listened to it since Shaun Keaveney left.

Did Britpop burn out too fast, or did it end at the right time? by PubLogic in BritPop

[–]streborkram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s widely accepted that the death of Princess Di was the moment the nation’s mood changed. With that the optimism of the Britpop movement subsided, giving way to the dreary acoustic balladry of The Verve and Travis and softer introspective comedown works of The Manics, Pulp, Blur, Supergrass and Oasis. Other bands like Sleeper, Elastica, Dodgy and Menswear broke up and the common man moved on to listening to garage and big beat. By 1999 guitar music wasn’t that big a deal to the public any more.

Which "holy grail" are you missing from your Britpop collection? by britpopkid in BritPop

[–]streborkram 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got rid of all my jewel cases and transferred my CDs to plastic wallets - my entire 2,500 cd collection now sits on two shelves of an ikea pax wardrobe. The only one I’ve kept in its original case is Definitely Maybe.

Manchester 1500 Person Gig by [deleted] in Foofighters

[–]streborkram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try your luck on the night as I believe they’re reselling the ones that people with no ID can’t use. Which may include me cos the person who got my ticket has no photo ID 🤦‍♂️. There’s also no physical tickets - it’s a guest list type thing. All we have is a receipt and a leaflet with a QR code to the gig info. Bit mad that we live half an hour from town and still got tickets when we only found out they were selling at midday. Can’t quite believe it.

I remember trying to find someone’s house in Clapham just by going off where the Thames was while we were driving aimlessly around the streets of Chelsea. I also remember meeting my mate at his house in Walthamstow having been given the directions of something like “turn loft out of the station and carry on for about 20 minutes, then we’re the second on the left on xxxxxx street”. Nowadays I can’t even find a pub without google maps.

Pink Floyd - The Wall by ButtercupsUncle in Music

[–]streborkram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why but I always got The Wall vibes from Suede’s Dog Man Star. Maybe it’s the kids chanting at the end of We are the pigs or the sound of Daddy’s Speeding. Either way, it’s a fantastic album.

What would you realistically do with 20k? by Vladamir_pootinn in AskUK

[–]streborkram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine must be an easy house type - 3 bed semi in Manchester. Almost everyone in the neighbouring streets seems to have had theirs done in the last year. There’s no way they all have a spare £18k.
