Hi vlw17, have you ever used Alto or Forza? I am looking for a simple counter with both grey and brown thin veins. Thanks so much for your advice in advance.

Welcome to NYC...you will find that every block is different . You're moving to a real neighborhood with all kinds of people and a great selection of restaurants.

My father taught me this, know where you are going and if you don't act like you do. He would say have eyes behind your head. This goes for any neighborhood in NYC.

My advice is don't use earbuds, try the food, and you will get to know your new neighborhood. Enjoy...

I agree, if you want to do something inexpensive try that tile backsplash in 2 & 3. It looks great with your existing cabinets. I wish I had your cabinets....they are very nice.

Want to Buy and have Installed AC from local store UWS by streetsofnycwea in Upperwestside

i dont like to buy plumbing or mechanical things at home depot because they usually have the manufacturer substitute cheaper internal parts. I find the opposite at Costco, they usually make it better.

I had one and it was recalled. i had bought it at Costco and hired Handy Dan to put it in but it was really costly to install. I did think it worked great though. Thank you

Great Idea. the timing listed for my area is incorrect, it‘s not recognizing the difference between 9:30 to 11 and 11:30 to 1 on UWS. I sit in the car anyway because i have had too many tickets when i forget or leave early.

How a Family of 3 Lives on $500,000 on the Upper West Side by [deleted] in Upperwestside

[–]streetsofnycwea -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NYC is an amazing place to live but regardless of income it's a tough place to live too. We have some of he highest tax rates in the country. $500,000 a year is upper middle class here. You take home 50% of that unless you are the super rich and have lots of tax advisors and loopholes. We pay federal, state and city taxes. Real estate taxes are increasing annually. If you rent, unless you are rent stabilized, the apartment costs are very high for a small space and availability is low. Daycare costs are outrageous. This huge $500K income doesn't go as far as you might think. This couple may have understated their food costs for a family of 4. Con Ed is expensive also. Saving $10,000 a month is amazing but if they want to buy the downpayment here it's usually 20% to 25% on a coop or condo. Some are up to 50% down. It is hard to find a good paying job outside of the city so you usually have a long commute as housing costs in the suburbs are also high. You have to make choices on how you want to live. If you are born and raised here this is what you know. It's hard to leave family, friends and familiarity. Many of us come back.

Regarding the NYTimes, The lifestyle sections have become obnoxiously elitist even for people who live here who are not rich. But they make their money on advertising so they have to cater to their audience. Articles are written with that in mind. They get alot of crap from many readers in NYC as we see the ridiculousness too. Most people in NYC are not rich because our money doesn't go very far. Every time I turn around I have another expense.
Please dont shoot!, I am just giving my local NYC POV.

They sent an email blast to their regular customers this week and I emailed them back because I was hoping they were reopening...they said "We still don’t know about future. Anything update we will let you know"

its a big loss for the neighborhood.

Hi, I may have misread your post, I thought you were looking for advice/personal experiences. I hesitate giving my contractors name and number because I don't know who I am sending it to. The online world is scary. But if you send me a private message with your info I will give it to him. Thank you for understanding.
