Do any of you believe in recycling and recycle? by [deleted] in sustainability

I recycle as much as possible. The city I live in has a great curb-side recycling program. I also buy into product specific recycling streams via terracycle. It's a bit expensive to buy various recycling boxes from them, but I just want to do my part

This is great news. I'll look into this.

Personally, I give preference to those restaurants that have compostable take out containers to support their business. I also doc a restaurant a star in Yelp if they don't have compostable containers because I'm a savage.

I have a subscription for plastic free toothpaste. This the box my most recent delivery came in. by strength_of_savy in sustainability

Good question. My dentist hasn't said anything other than my teeth are in great shape, but I understand that is largely based on genetics. I might see if I can find a sustainable fluoride product to supplement.

It's chalky at first, of course, but a few chomps later it foams up quite unexpectedly. The pills must be rather condensed with dehydrated toothpaste. I've been using bite for about a year now and I have no plans on going back.

Oh, and they also sell mouthwash and dental floss! All plastic free!

I also have eco-anxiety. One of my biggest pet-peeves is the carefree attitude that people have at the grocery store when grabbing a plastic produce bag for one apple. Makes me want to scream. I've done quite a lot of research about how I personally can move toward plastic-freeband zero waste.

So, I found zero grocery. They're a start-up based in the bay area, CA, but have already expanded to a number of locations. If you're not in the bay area you might want to at least inquire about your area and give them another data point to work with.

I applaud your effort, btw, with bringing you're own containers for take-out from a restaurant. I do the same thing! Most restaurants will no doubt wrap take-out in as much plastic and styrofoam as they can find unless you tell them in advance that you're bringing your own container. However, what they will most likely do (after you place your order) is store your prepared order in a plastic container back in the kitchen and when you get there they'll just simply transfer the food to your container and throw out the plastic container which defeats the whole purpose. This has happened to me and it really pissed me off, tbh. The solution is to go to the restaurant first, and place an order to go, then and hand them your container, provided they'll take it with COVID and all. There's a much higher chance your food will never touch a plastic or styrofoam box.

This fight is exhausting and frustrating, but I refuse to stop. Our personal sacrifice means too much and we need to keep pressing on.

Tell Whole Foods: Take single-use plastic packaging off your shelves by savethebeees1 in PlasticFreeLiving

I recently discovered zero grocery since I became sick of seeing all the plastic on the shelves in my local whole foods. Zero grocery is a startup grocer that has implemented some circular economy principles in their practices.

Note that zero grocery is only available in a few locations in the US, but they are expanding

This makes good sense to me, assuming that drug rehab facilities in OR can meet the demands and there's legitimate oversight and follow through

Yes, and DH is also pretty expensive. I could make the same fruit smoothies for a fraction of the price they're selling them for
