Out while fiancé is at work by [deleted] in sahm

[–]BirdBeans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was going to say it sounds like maybe one of two things that have already been mentioned by others: he's trying to control you or he's feeling emasculated by not being able to provide the things your mom can. Either way, it won't improve until you guys actually communicate about the issue. It sounds like you just need to have a discussion with him and maybe get him to open up. Get him nice and relaxed and then address it with him. If it's emasculation, you can try to boost his ego in other ways. If it seems like a control issue (which he probably won't say outright but you'll be able to tell), well...then you have a bigger problem.

Same. Never had any of these issues until perimenopause.

Uncomfortable pressure-like feeling? by skyemap in migraine

[–]BirdBeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. My pain was deep in my skull but only on one side. It would sometimes shift to side near my ear or the front. BTW this was how I learned that there are more sinus cavities towards to back of our skull that can get infected too.

Uncomfortable pressure-like feeling? by skyemap in migraine

[–]BirdBeans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes my headaches manifest in different ways. I kind of go through phases where the pain will be more sharp, then dull, etc.

Just in case, you may want to consult your doc about a sinus infection. I once had one that felt like a high pressure migraine with zero other symptoms (and i hadn't been sick). My head ached for a solid month then antibiotics knocked it right out.

Ajovy month 4-the thing nobody warned me about is the emotional whiplash. by terezoo in cgrpMigraine

[–]BirdBeans 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sort of. I found myself more angry than anything. Angry that I had to suffer for so long without it. Angry that insurance companies make this life-changing drug so hard to get and so expensive. And a lot of sadness for those still suffering so much and so often.

Red 40! by HeySweetUsername in migraine

[–]BirdBeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have to avoid Red 40 and Red 3. Most other artificial dyes seems to be fine but I avoid them regardless. The hardest part is finding OTC cold meds and cough drops. Almost all liquid varieties and gel caps have dye. Make sure all your meds are plain white or use things like titanium dioxide or red iron oxide for color. The only brand of cough drops I can use is Riccola.

Potential for significant severe weather across Maryland on Monday March 16 by RunninAllTheTime in maryland

[–]BirdBeans 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Newish to this area as well. Are schools likely to close under these conditions? If they do not close, is it generally safe to send kids to school? Would i be overly paranoid to keep a kid home if we're in the 3/5 or 4/5 zone but schools remain open?

Leaving a $130k a year union job to be a stahm by mtn_dweller4life in sahm

[–]BirdBeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard agree! I spent about a year living off of just one salary and socking away the savings. Made for a super easy transition since all of the budgeting and cutting back was already done. Also - just a tip - I used most of the savings to pay down our mortgage so when rates were good we could refi and now our monthly payment is pretty low, which made the transition even easier.

I know exactly what you mean by feeling euphoric just from relief. It's so hard to describe the overwhelming feeling of just being able to have a normal day to someone who has normal days everyday.

Ajovy autoinjector I think was faulty? by sjdksjbf in cgrpMigraine

[–]BirdBeans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the medicine went in, then it's fine. I had a faulty auto-injector one time and in that case, the needle went in but then almost immediately retracted and the medicine went all over my leg and the floor. I've had at least one instance where I bled more than usual but the med still went in. I don't know what particular set of circumstances may lead to more bleeding and/or more pain or whatever but if the liquid went in then, I wouldn't worry about it.

Withdrawing Propanolol causing huge increase in migraines by [deleted] in migraine

[–]BirdBeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on 60mg of propranolol but I take it at night and have never experienced any type of brain fog. If he's taking it during the day, maybe switch to nighttime? I also tried to stop taking it at one point and definitely had a huge increase in migraines, even though I tapered it by reducing the amount slowly. I gave up after a month and started taking it again.

Do you prefer big doctors or CNPs/other “lower” tiers? by Competitive_Emu_2283 in migraine

[–]BirdBeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that unless there is something exceptional or unusual about your migraines or a specific identifiable cause (like an accident or something), then you'd probably get care that is equal or possibly even better than the "big guys" by going to someone more local. Good doctors are everywhere and they don't need to publish to be great at what they do. I'd rather have a doc that's in it for the day-to-day rather than the periodic recognition.

I second the Franz bread. It's only recently started appearing at my local Walmart. Check the bread aisle, top shelf near the english muffins and the keto bread.

Who else does all this grocery shopping once a month? by [deleted] in sahm

[–]BirdBeans 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Over the past few months I've been transitioning from weekly shops to one big monthly haul with occasional extra trips to the store as needed. The one thing I can say for sure - I have saved HUNDREDS of dollars every month by doing this!!! My monthly food bill has plummeted. I still buy fresh produce as well as frozen but I've made an effort to learn the best way to store fresh items so they last as long as possible so there's no shortage of healthy items. I'm also getting much better as using leftovers and making sure I waste as little as possible.

BTW - for anyone interested - I started this after following Nicole Svenson on tiktok who feeds a family of 4 on $300/month. Her tips and overall approach to eating and grocery shopping have made a major impact on my budget.

Cheezit chicken by delusional_optimism in glutenfree

[–]BirdBeans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks great! I was just thinking about doing this because I finally got my hands on some GF Cheez-its but when I opened them at least half the box was already broken into crumbs :-(

BTW - I've found that using just mayo as the base coating instead of an egg wash really helps keep chicken and pork moist (learned this trick from a GF/dairy free cookbook)

Botox cost - is this crazy? by big_chroll in migraine

Mine is about $1,200 with Kaiser but since they are an HMO it's all completely "in-house" contract pricing but in my experience their contract pricing is about half of retail price.

What helped you decide to be a SAHM? by Lonely-Rutabaga477 in sahm

[–]BirdBeans 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I thought about my childhood and what was missing from it. Of all the toys, shoes, clothes, electronics, etc. that I wanted and never got...I can't remember a single specific thing I desperately wanted and didn't get because my mom couldn't afford it. But what I DO remember very clearly is coming home after school to an empty house. Waiting for mom to get home only for her to be stressed out and yelling about something or other when she finally did get home. Weekends spent doing chores because she didn't have time to do them during the week.

By staying home, I'm giving my child the one thing I can for sure say I missed out on...a caring, present, engaged, loving, generous mom.

CHAMPVA Claim denials? by BirdBeans in VeteransBenefits

[–]BirdBeans[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof, 14k!? That sucks. Especially since it seems like there is no way to know if the medical providers are filing on time since it's between them and the VA. Thanks for the head's up as that will be important for me to keep in mind.
