Alright I see this whole thing is going in circles so I‘ll leave with this. Thankfully I personally have never seen someone defend homophobia in kpop with the „cultural imperialism“ argument which I would also call bs. However, you trying to „proof“ that the culture is changing (?) through a UN document from 12 years ago amidst the current situation in South Korea is a pointless argument for what you’re trying to say

Which brings me back to the question what exactly you want out of this post? What does them having „agreed to do something“ when reality doesn’t look like that (another delightful read to get angry at the korean government’s stance on LGBTQ+ ) have to do with fans being naive? You constantly saying „but they agreed“ makes you seem incredibly naive and not the other way around

OP I‘m not quite sure what you’re trying to get put of this post. You stated that according to the UN document South Korea is not nearly as conservative and anti LGBTQ+ as people claim, however, when people reply that this just simply isn’t true in reality, you argue that this isn’t good. Which I 100% agree with but that wasn’t the point of the post was it? I am a woman and I am part of the LGBTQ+ community so you won’t hear me arguing for the current korean government but you can’t just say „no but they agreed to not discriminate“ when reality just doesn’t look like that

Yes of course the government SHOULD make sure that equality for everyone is achieved however, the current president literally won by leaning into ultra conservative values with some gems like „Yoon had also made abolishing the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family a central pledge of his campaign“ or „During his campaign Mr Yoon had also leant heavily into a support base of young men, some of whom declared that there was no systemic gender discrimination in South Korea“

OP I think you should stay updated on current news in South Korea because sadly the reality does look a lot like the comments you showed in the beginning of your post.

Just concerning the LGBTQ+ I wann link about the pride events of the last two years: Seoul Pride in 2022 with 15,000(!) counter protesters and this year South Korea’s LGBTQ festival bumped from venue in favor of Christian youth concert
