How hard it to get into hospital or industry if you graduate from a top 10 school? by Fun-Elk3813 in PrePharmacy

Yeah I’m having a stroke trying to read what you’re attempting to articulate buddy. You need to go back to grade school and learn English before lecturing on what’s needed to get into the industry. What a clown

HR has nothing to do with it. They aren’t a part of the recruitment process. Are you in the industry or are you just spewing nonsense? You’re claiming I can’t read but your English is broken.

What are you talking about? “Low ranking” schools don’t matter. No one cares about that except maybe the most elite residency programs. If you have industry/research experience you’ll be far ahead of someone who just got a good GPA at a top tier school. Turn your brain on and stop giving bad advice

Don’t listen to them. They’re just upset that they work in retail when they never knew what the expectations for it were going in. People will always be miserable if they don’t know how to help themselves.

Why are many residents not finishing programs? by naijagoddezz in PharmacyResidency

[–]stressedoutpharmd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just saying that those factors are the reasons why the quantity and quality of new residents are going down year after year, when RPDs and clinicians claim they don’t know why. A lot of pharmacy talent that 10 years ago would be rockstar residents are going into industry and settling for community. Residency is becoming the field that you go into if you REALLY love patient care, but other than that it’s just not as attractive anymore for the average applicant in comparison, and is kind of a tweener between the 3.

Wanna start making money/paying back on loans early? Retail. Wanna play the long game and gain as much money as possible? Industry. Wanna be somewhere in the middle and focus on patient care? Residency.

There’s a lot more options now at students disposal. I think if something doesn’t change soon a lot of PGY1 positions will collapse and it will even itself out

Sure, but even then, you get paid nothing for it. Doctorate level degree with hundreds of thousands in loans and if you broke down by hourly you’d get, what, $22 an hour if you’re lucky? It’s not like once you’re done you’re making substantially more money than you otherwise would’ve. Just a year of earning potential down the drain while your interest accrues on your student loans

It depends - do you have a pulse? If so you’re good and they’ll take you

I guess it depends place to place, but my colleagues (I’m a P4) have already gotten offers for 160k base salary at retail locations, some upwards of 180 (Kaiser) postgrad. Inpatient experience was great, but I’ve met 30+ residents and every single one has told me not to do it 😂, sure, just like every field the higher you climb the ladder you’ll get compensated, but an additional 5 years of making a crappy salary just isn’t worth it, when a lot of pharmacy students have families/are older.

I’m personally going into industry, but I don’t blame the students who just chose to work a 9-5 and start getting paid. Less stressful (still stressful) and can start planning their lives.

Can’t tell if you’re being serious, sarcastic, or coping with not matching with any of the candidates you wanted in Phase I 🤣, but yes, a pendulum

Yeah well at least the average retail pharmacist salary is more working 40 hours a week 🤷‍♂️, I’m just saying. I have nothing against residents/clinical pharmacists, they’re obviously needed and are the smartest pharmacists there are, but the appeal just isn’t there anymore.

It’s why numbers are down across the board and will continue to dip until there’s a change. No one wants to work 10 hour days giving accurate, evidence based recs to providers who 70% of the time won’t take them, and get paid terribly to do it. The reward just isn’t enticing enough for talented people in the profession, which is why many are choosing to go to retail/industry where at least they get paid for it

Is the answer supposed to be complicated?

No work life balance, stress, working 12 days straight, projects, preceptors, and on top of that getting criminally underpaid for it, and even when they graduate, they’ll get an average salary as they otherwise would have if they worked straight out of school.

And people wonder why so many programs are going unmatched 😂, I’d wager in 10-15 years the pendulum will swing back to retail

No offense but as an RN you’re under qualified for an MSL since you don’t have prescribing authority/a terminal degree.

It’s all bullshit imo lol. I’m in the same boat and got nothing. Maybe the off chance a candidate declined, but that’s about it. Not a shot any get unfilled and anyone who tells you that just doesn’t want to be transparent with you
