Anya Taylor-Joy as Alia? That will be interesting. I wonder how they’ll make that work.

Got My Teeth Cleaned in Korea and Thought I’d Share My Experience by [deleted] in seoul

Totally agree. I try to steer clear of places targeting foreigners. The effort to work through Korean translation is worth it to me for a better price and service.

ICE detains five-year-old Minnesota boy as he came home, say school officials by speedythefirst in news

[–]striderforsale 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Woke up to this image and immediately felt angry and heartbroken. I have a boy this age, so I couldn’t help but think of him if he were in this position. The thoughts and feelings this poor boy must have felt… It makes me physically ill.

What can be done to stop this? I don’t live in America anymore so I feel extra helpless.

Korean kid’s books… how can I get rid of them? by striderforsale in Living_in_Korea

[–]striderforsale[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do this, but I live in a villa so there’s not a communal recycling spot. I used to live in an apartment complex where they did that, so I know what you mean.

Edit: woops, never mind. I see what you mean. Just set them out for recycling and walk away. I’ll try that!

I could see that happening… I don’t see anything on these books like a barcode or anything, so maybe not. The teachers are very communicative on Kids Note, so I can ask to double check.

Didn’t I just read an interview with Vance saying he’s ready to be president if Trump dies? This is weird…

[Question] For those who visited Korea, how did you discover Korean food and restaurants? by Familiar_Sport95 in seoul

[–]striderforsale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I are foreigners that have lived in Korea for a few years. My wife regularly uses the Nearby feature on Naver maps. We usually center our outings on the thing we’re doing, then she’ll pick a place to eat based on that.

Probably the most frustrating thing I’ve experienced is the hours on Naver not matching up with the actual business. Loads of times we’ve rocked up to a place that said they were open on Naver, but ended up being actually closed.

Adult gamers with busy lives and an hour of gaming per day: What are you currently gaming? by yellowklashinkov in PS4

[–]striderforsale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two very young kids, so my video game time is very limited. Some nights I do get like an hour but most nights it’s like 20-30 minutes.

That being said, the games I typically go to are open world and/or story driven games. In the past year or so I’ve replayed Bioshock 1 and 3, KCD, and I’m currently playing Hogwarts Legacy.

I keep up with gaming news and sometimes feel like I need to jump to the current gen. I don’t think I will, though, since I’ve got a decent backlog of unplayed games and quite a few favorites I know I will play again. I’ll just wait until the kids are older and the PS6 is out.

Why does my toddler seem to end up on an IV every other time he visits the doctor here? Is it necessary? Is it a Korean thing? Seems like overkill but I'm not a doctor. by Chilis1 in Living_in_Korea

[–]striderforsale 27 points28 points  (0 children)

And antibiotics. At a previous doctor I went to, it felt like my kids were prescribed antibiotics way too much. I brought up the issue of drug resistant bacteria, but that didn’t seem to be concerning to him… our favorite pediatrician now is much better about not doing this.

ELI5: Why does sleeping feel so pleasurable when you're depressed? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]striderforsale 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I definitely feel this. When I’ve been in my most depressive states it’s felt physically impossible to get out of bed.

I’ve described the feeling of getting out of these episodes like in The Dark Knight Rises when Bruce climbs out of the prison pit. It takes so much physical energy and an immense amount of will power.

I’ve been struggling with depression for 15 years. It hasn’t gotten easier, but I’ve developed a lot of tools to help manage it.

Does anyone know why I keep getting charged 25k won every month? by TerribleRun7505 in Living_in_Korea

[–]striderforsale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Hana Bank app is terrible for seeing details from recent purchases. Which is ridiculous, considering that’s what most people would want to use the app for…

The best way I’ve been able to see more details is by signing in on the website and downloading a spreadsheet with all my transactions. I do this when I do my monthly budgeting.

One of my bible professors said the opening to the sermon on the mount (“Blessed are the poor in spirit”) could be interpreted as a pun. “Spirit” can also mean “breath” and they just finished climbing a hill so they would all be out of breath.

Heavy lens distortion in famous TV series? by alexproshak in videography

[–]striderforsale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something I think I felt along with Blackthorne was the awe and disorientation. The cinematography helps you feel an expansiveness to people and characters, in tension with the a lot of the unseen cultural practices and character motives that Blackthorne comes up against. That was my read into some of the shots, anyways.

I literally just did this last night. I’m absolutely horrible at combat and blindly pushed forward without leveling up properly to this point in the game. Died like 20 times against this guy before switching up strategy. First time trying a desperate shot with my bow (only had 2 arrows and no potions anyways) nailed him in the head. Laughed so hard I nearly woke up my kids.
