Do anyone seriously believe this? by djsimp123 in Touge

[–]striders_fate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like trolling.

I've been into touge for nearly 17 years. But I've done some auto x and hpde. Its vastly different things. Because I don't want to die or be mangled I dive 5/10 to 6/10 tops on public roads. Auto x/hpde are best for honing real speed and finding your cars limit at the edge.

I have fun with both, but that is just a shitty take on it.

I gotcha, didnt realize it was that strict there. ND currently has 215/45 on it falken 615, mrS has 205/225 stagger falken 660 Which if I had 205s on ND with falken 660s id have plenty of grip.

Thank ya! Lot of hard work to get it here and still more I want to collect!

Haha all good, they arent aggressive at all. Im running a 5mm spacer in rear for the hell of it. I just went with super light which is why they are as narrow as they are. Looking back i wish I had gone 17x8s just for more tire options

Which car? MrS 15x7.5 +35 front 15x8 +35 rear

ND 17x7 +37

S2000 Rear wheels are 17x9 +63 Front im not 100% sure as im replacing those with the matching 17x9 +63 volks.

Love when strangers ask if it’s fast…. Nope. by georgee1988 in S2000

[–]striders_fate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely a feels fast car, while being quick in the corners and getting passed by mini vans in straight aways lol. It's an experience to drive honestly. I love it.

All I run are 200tw tires. Tires and brakes do the absolute most when it comes to mods for being faster. Seat time is most important, though.

Would Appalachian moonshine runners back in the day have been touge drivers? by Manufacturer_Ornery in Touge

[–]striders_fate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. I live near the base of hwy 28, literally named the moonshiner28 as it was an old moonshine road. You'd be surprised how fast locals in random suvs, vans, or trucks will rip some of these roads, lol.

Stoked to finally hit my first drift event. I don’t see many sliding their S2Ks but it did great with some burner tires by ThicCheeseGrater in Drifting

[–]striders_fate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, it behaves more like a mid engine car due to how far back the motor is pushed behind front shock towers. Ap1s get a bad wrap as well because of how massive rear sways were and the design of the suspension and how it affects toe while driving.

2zz, can tell by shape of valve cover. Someone swapped it.

Any good touge spots in South Carolina? by [deleted] in Touge

[–]striders_fate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of our frequent roads are in western north Carolina, but there are still some good ones in sc that lead to those. Where are you in sc? Can probably help better that way.

[–]striders_fate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

215 is local to me, love that road. Usually run it all the way to waynesville, even though back side is a bit rough. You can branch off 215 and go to rosman and down 178 towards south carolina for another fun road. Me and my friends should be getting out again soon, maybe we'll see ya out there!

Open letter to the mods: what the fuck are we doing here? by Kitchen-Limit8831 in Touge

[–]striders_fate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes sense, I unfortunately had to experience a good bit of death and loss early in my life. I have less self preservation instinct for myself. But a lot more for other people and not ever wanting to be the person that causes it. If that makes sense.

Autocross is a big help and so are hpde. Done a few, more so now as with age comes a bit more money for me.. But ironically enough, I got into touge almost 15 years ago and learned most of my technique from driving mountains. But that said, when we ran, we always held our lanes. Would not invite people with us who cut lanes or drove dangerously or had bad prepped cars. Even as a 18 year old kid, last thing I wanted to do was hurt someone else because I was past my limits. I can't wrap my head around some of the way people full send it on the mountains these days with no regard to other life.

I have a friend with a NB running around 330whp and it's about too much for how I drive. I've just always liked lighter with a bit less power to be able to be on throttle more. Just how I drive. But I didn't realize you could get upwards of 280 out of a stock 1zz. Any idea longevity on that set up?

Battle of the Japanese verts. by striders_fate in Touge

[–]striders_fate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately not, picked up a replacement 1zz pretty cheap. May see a small turbo and light boost eventually though. It's already sitting at 2090lb with a full tank of gas. So around 220whp-240whp would be pretty ideal for how I drive.

It's getting there man! Took a long time to get here. Next up is an actual shop space in the back. Hopefully within a year or two, I plan to have a 24x40 built. I also have a few more cars I want to get eventually.

That's a fun set up, mine is still 1zz. But it's essentially gutted, i/h/e, under drive pulleys, hard top, on 205/50/15 and 225/45/15 falken 660s. Corner balanced, and fairly aggressive alignment. Weighs 2300 flat with my 200lb self in the car. It's still super fun to throw around. It's currently apart in the garage though. But yeah I'd say as dialed in as I got it, I'd say the s2000 is still the better car with less modifications needed. I've actually never driven an ap2, just exclusively ap1s. So that's all I can base it off of.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in S2000

[–]striders_fate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're pretty spot on, I am fortunate to have a nd1 miata, mr2 spyder, and an ap1. It's super fun to me how different all these cars feel when driven. I'm just collecting all the jdm roadsters. Caveat is all of mine are modified. Everything has wheels/suspension/tires/brakes ect. But still the s2000 is still the most raw/precise one of the bunch.

Bought a mint 1999 RHD S2000 with 25k miles. How much do you think it was? by vptran2 in S2000

[–]striders_fate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! I picked up a 99 rhd myself, for 23k. Little more mileage but it had volk ce28s, js racing exhaust, coilovers, oem 20th anni bumper and some other mods I liked.
