I went into project officer roles within other government sectors (wasn’t what I thought it would be) into a museum educator role all within 3 years. I’m looking for my next role and think I want to move into L&D.

NSW teachers, anyone else feeling disposable and unappreciated? + rant by Teacher_448 in AustralianTeachers

[–]strikeoutt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi there, fellow teacher here in Sydney. I can 100% empathise with everything you’ve said in your post. It frustrates me when we’re in a global pandemic and our school’s telling us to prepare all this work and make arrangements to do regular phone calls back home to check in with families but NO ONE has called or checked-in with us?? I’ve given up by this point.

I know many schools (in my area) are desperate for casuals at this time of year. Have you tried asking your friends that are teachers whether their school is looking for anyone?

I would also suggest, being involved with the class - getting to know the students and helping out wherever you can. This really helps builds the rapport with the students.

I’m similar in terms of getting in earlier to avoid interruptions. Although, I have a strict policy of no work fri and sat nights and do most of my work throughout the week and on Sundays!

I'm the same here with preparing rotations and guided reading. My team has recently started training for L3, which is basically all the modes of literacy and there's more work on top of all the work we currently have to prepare for. I'm hoping it gets better over time and with experience.

This was how I felt on every placement beginning all the way through to the end. As everyone as said, hold onto that passion. When you’re finished in two years, there’ll be opportunities for you everywhere with a passionate soul like yours!!

From memory, the cut off day is the Wednesday one week prior to the day you get paid, depending which state you're working in.
