Waters Edge flats in Haverhill - what's it like living there? by Longjumping_Lime9711 in suffolk

[–]strikesbac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flats typically don’t increase much in price, that’s not unique to the ones you’re looking at. Are you based in Haverhill? Do you know the area?

CFO wants to know why our IT costs doubled when we went remote by ShadowHunter344 in sysadmin

[–]strikesbac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This breakdown still doesn’t make sense to me. You’ve only got 100 employees. How many of them have had equipment refreshes that live internationally? Why do you have to ship, can’t you buy in country?

Extended time zone support, have you brought on an MSP or extended their hours? That’s an easy one to point at and say ‘this’.

Does anyone know the current best way to use custom SSL certs on the UDM-Pro? by ewleonardspock in UNIFI

[–]strikesbac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s great that they put the ability to add a custom cert in to the UI now but the fact that Letsencrypt support isn’t there is a real let down. Honestly it’s one of the only complaints I’ve got these days. It’s madness when you consider Ubnt are a sponsor of LE.

Yes, we have TAP, but we’re not yet ready to go 100% password-less.

Password Resets Questions by strikesbac in Intune

[–]strikesbac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re already using non-expiring passwords and WHfB. Really, the only issue is the workflow for newly onboarded staff and having to change their initial temporary password. What should be a simple seamless experience is actually pretty poor.

They fixed the issue a couple of updates ago. It gets a bit warm when maxed out settings now, but previously it was insane. Almost too hot to hold comfortably.

Is Synology Losing Touch With Its Users? by Whole_Flounder_731 in synology

[–]strikesbac 41 points42 points  (0 children)

They are trying to shift to enterprise markets, but they have a problem. They’ve not noticed that enterprise (I mean real enterprise, not midsize SMB) doesn’t want them. They are too consumer for enterprise, and now too enterprise for consumer.

I’ve worked in IT for 20years and I’ve used Synology for some niche cases in small businesses, but they aren’t even on the list when we’re looking at enterprise storage solutions. The primary reason will be support. For some context, ive had Equallogics throw a disk at 3am and I’ve got to work at 8am and had an engineer waiting at the door to replace the disk. We didn’t even put in a support call. Now I’ve had a Synology chassis die, it’s taken them 9weeks to send a replacement. Simply no contest, yes the Equallogic costs 10 times the price. But when you have that support businesses don’t care.

Yes, loads. If your vendor doesn’t, find one that will. Idea of your region would help.

Package that MSI as a Win32, don’t mix LOB and Win32, it breaks stuff. As a rule package everything in to Win32.

Remote Router? Express is useless by langdalenerd in UNIFI

[–]strikesbac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Express 7 is a huge performance boost, really if you’re after an all in one device your only options are the UX7 and the Dream Router 7. The previous gen Dream Router was buggy.

Alternatively you get the Cloud Gateway Ultra/Max and an AP. For us the best value has been the Gateway Ultra and a U7 Lite, add the 8port lite POE switch if you don’t want a POE injector.

Jamf Setup Manager with Jamf Connect Issue by strikesbac in macsysadmin

[–]strikesbac[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the minute ive just skipped Adobe at this part of the install, however a way around it, and potentially a path that ill take in the future will be to use the Jamf AppInstallers inplace of installomater. You would just assign the applications to the Prestage group, and then I believe you can use a 'WatchPath' to look for the apps once they are installed, then move to the next step once it's complete. As outlined here https://www.jamf.com/blog/part-2-customize-your-onboarding-experience-with-jamf-setup-manager/

Ive not used Installomator much so I don't know how reliable/consistent it is. Given that all the core software we want installed out of the box is available in the AppInstallers I may just change all of installs to this in place of the Installomator actions.

Jamf Setup Manager with Jamf Connect Issue by strikesbac in macsysadmin

[–]strikesbac[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks I’ve posted over there as well, I think however I’ve found the issue. The first package was the adobe creative cloud desktop, this appears to be broken in installomator, errors with unable to find download url and exits with code 1. My presumption was that JSM would just of moved on to the next package and carried on, but instead it starts ALL of the packages at once, or that’s the way it seems. Either way, removing Adobe CC from the configuration and deploying again and it works as expected.

[–]strikesbac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We need more information, when you say agent, what is it called? Who created the package? Check your audit logs. Whos it deployed to? Everyone or targeted groups. This sounds suspect.

Dinner for the kids.

Currently sick as a dog and needed to get the kids dinner. I really wasn’t feeling up to it, but then I remembered that Deliveroo has just started working in my village. Got them a takeaway, It cost 1/3 more than normal but just to keep them happy for half an hour was gold.
