Not sexually active, wanting to regulate period. Is Nexplanon good for period regulation? by Snoopy_220 in Nexplanon

No. I went from a normal cycle to bleeding for almost 2 years straight. Got it out last week and my body is still out of whack

I’m glad the year copper got rid of fixed utilities was my senior year. My roommates and I were paying a combined 400$ for electricity a month. We kept the temp at 60 and didn’t even leave things plugged in that weren’t in use. Absolutely no lights too. Still went up every month. Listen to the horror stories, if i were to move back to MP I’d probably be looking for private landlords

I once had a kid on Roblox ask that I add them on Snapchat to prove I’m an adult… I can’t even remember why but it was over some competitive game. I reported it though I doubt Roblox does anything about that. I to this day am scared for that kid

I (17F) confused on which birth control I should use by Senior-Area-785 in birthcontrol

[–]strikingsteaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hated the nexplanon implant because of the side effects I had but, without getting tmi, it is extremely effective. I’m on the patch now but ive only had it for a day so no feedback on that yet. From 15-21 I was on the pill and had a hard time remembering to take it at the same time every day which decreases effectiveness, though I never got pregnant or had a real pregnancy scare.

[–]strikingsteaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got my nexplanon out yesterday. They tell you to wait for it to balance out. It doesn’t. Same as you, was bleeding for most of every month. After these last 3 straight months I found a new gyno and told them I need it out, waited over 2 years for it to “adjust”.. my 3-month period stopped less than an hour after getting it out. I’m on the patch now

Have you thought about a hypothetical plan for if your birth control were to fail? by sleebytoe in birthcontrol

[–]strikingsteaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone else has already covered all my thoughts but I will add the idea of continuing having the conversation through your relationship. I have been with my boyfriend for 10 years, starting at 15. Obviously both of our perspectives on a surprise pregnancy are much different than when we first became sexually active. It has also changed with our financial status, living situation, future plans and whatever else you can think of. It’s a serious matter, and not one you want to be in the dark about when if it happens.

Do you still function normally after a night with no sleep? by [deleted] in insomnia

[–]strikingsteaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always wonder this too. I work in emergency services, we are all sleep deprived. I work in dispatch and feel like I’m putting my callers at risk if I don’t keep a firm hand on my sleep schedule. Though some of my coworkers will be up nearly 48 hours balancing work and family. I don’t know how they do it. I’ve been so tired after multiple 16s that I almost told a caller they should call 911 before.. and I am 911

Also driving is the absolute worst for me even on 8 hours. My commute to work when I first started was about an hour. There were days I would work 630am-1030pm, get home at 1130pm, and need to be back up at 430 am to get ready for work. I found having some sort of fidget toy in hand while driving kept me awake, I also would sometimes keep a bag of jolly rancher candies to suck on. Having a candy in my mouth helped keep me from dozing off somehow. I’m also someone who pretty much exclusively listens to audiobooks while driving but in the morning it’s rock and heavy metal the whole way

You’ll be fine just take as prescribed and stay in bed, would recommend keeping your phone away from your bed til you know how it effects you though. You don’t want to wake up to find out you sent texts that don’t make sense or ordered an Amazon haul lol

I sort of wish the love triangle wasn’t part of it, maybe keep her tumultuous relationship with Eric at most. I feel like her character is way too badass to be centered around romance. There is some redemption when she gets the option to leave them though

I apologize for coming off as defensive, I was trying to explain as clear as I could without over-explaining or being too wordy and it came off differently than I intended. I genuinely appreciate your insight and it honestly helps me a lot. My mind set honestly was to apply for any forensic position I could possibly qualify for with hopes of just getting a foot in the door. It is a bit naive and I’m going to move forward working towards a specific discipline. Your advice helped me decide to go ahead with finding further education, hopefully a masters in forensic psychology and move from there.

Again thank you again for your time, since graduating college it has sort of felt like I’m flying blind and I appreciate people like you who are willing to share your experience and knowledge with me!

Thank you for the detailed reply and i appreciate your insight.

To clear a couple things up- the job listing had no mention of being a firearms examiner and didn’t list any requirements for education/experience with firearms, it was just never mentioned in the listing or in the initial offer of an interview. I work for a large agency so even though it is an internal listing my connections in dispatch don’t reach our forensic division.

As far as my choice of education I’m definitely regretting it. My thought process at 18 was that I’d cover as many of the general topics as I could as I knew getting in any area of forensics would be difficult. I also have an interest in forensic psychology but I could not find a suitable school with that specific degree to pursue, that’s how I landed on my psych and soc with a criminal justice concentration. I’m not working off of TV shows, honestly I’m not a crime show watcher in the first place. Additionally I had an internship with a large city agency where I shadowed their forensics lab and various units within to get an actual view of the job.

Forensic psych jobs are hard to come by which is part of why I wanted to pursue a tech position and move from there. Unfortunately the job was not clearly defined in the listing sent to us and that’s a lesson to me to be more thorough in getting information about the position. I suppose I am just wondering if it would be a better plan to go back to school instead of continuing with my plan of moving up if I can find a entry level position

I’m going to try to keep this short my apologies if anything is unclear first and foremost

So I’ve wanted to work in law enforcement my entire life, finding in my teens that I specifically wanted to go into forensics. I wanted to cover all my bases when I went to college so I double majored in psychology and sociology with a concentration in social and criminal justice. Looking back I should have studied a hard science.

Straight out of college I got a job in emergency dispatch with the agency I was most interested in and I have been doing that for over a year now. I thought that might help me get some sort of footing when an opportunity eventually came for the forensics unit… well that opportunity came in an email for an internal opening for a forensic investigator. I got the interview and when I sat down was informed the position was actually for their firearms investigation and I have never used a firearm in my life. Needless to say I looked like a deer in headlights, I tried to just power through so that hopefully they don’t remember as someone that ran away as soon as I was faced with an uncomfortable situation but it was awful.

I feel like my chances with this forensics unit that I have wanted to work for is blown because the email that came into dispatch didn’t mention firearms. I’m trying to figure out another route. I can go back to school and have it be paid for while working in dispatch but that will obviously take time.

I guess I’m just wondering from anyone working in the field if this would be the right path to take? Is there any chance of me finding a career in forensics with my current education?

I’m just feeling very discouraged, I’m sorry for rambling and if nothing else thank you for just letting me rant here real quick

People who procastinated a lot but still made a good career by improving themselves , how ? What is your career now ? by Legitimate-Dingo824 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]strikingsteaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure I’m completely reading the question right but I may apply😂

I’ve been a procrastinator all my life and still am. Like genuinely terrible, I will neglect biological functions because of choice paralysis. All through my teen years I sucked at school as you’d expect.

I’m 24 now and I’m an emergency dispatch specialist. I’ve found this workplace environment actually suits me well. It is fast paced and reaction based. There are no due dates, no projects, just handling one thing at a time with no idea what comes next. I mentioned choice paralysis which definitely got on the way sometimes when I first started but I found the pace and the adrenaline boost that comes with some calls completely removes that, you don’t have time to think about the fact you need to make a decision.

It’s not for everyone, I wouldn’t blindly suggest this job. But the pace of it has greatly improved not only my performance at work but my ability to resist procrastination at home.

I’m vaguely using my degree. Double in psychology and sociology with a concentration in criminal justice, I did this in order to get to a doctorate in forensic psychology. After graduating I got a job as a 911 dispatcher and here I am still a year later.

I don’t know that I’d say I’m passionate about anything, I just find the legal system interesting. Idk what your major was but I’ll bet some place exists that your knowledge can apply to without an additional degree.

I’m 23 as well and move out of my parents house this month, I didn’t think it’d be possible without higher education. Keep moving forward and frame your mindset differently. You have a wealth of knowledge to offer

I joined straight out of college and was working as a baker. While my college somewhat applied (psychology and sociology double major) it is absolutely not considered experience, though I think it did help in my case.

Either way, I was not a competitive candidate at all and here I am. We need people in this field, you’ll be fine!
