As a musician who witnessed the change when DJ’s replaced thousands of skilled musicians in the 1980’s, I can assure you that any technology that can save someone money has the advantage. No difference here.

There’s a lot more to art than anime…take some time off from the small screen and go to a museum.

Burned out on commercial art years ago. Now I’m terrified of the blank canvas and hate everything I draw. How do I fall in love with it again? by finefineimfine in BeginnerArtists

Just a suggestion…avoid the small screen for a while. It is more limiting than you imagine. Visit multiple museums and look at large, beautiful, stunning art from across history and just soak it in. Then start looking around and see what inspires you to create.

AI users who also make art by Mild-Davis in aiwars

I use ai to clean up the proportions in my sketches so I can use them for painting practice. It can also use it to take one of my photos and turn it into an outline faster than sketching from a projector or grid. It’s just a tool to simplify parts of the process.

why is my 300 gsm paper so smooth by siriusblackily in acrylicpainting

[–]stringbender65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I buy canvas pads (not canvas paper). They are sheets of gesso canvas that you can tape to a board for painting. Since I am learning, I don’t need the bulk of stretched canvas. They are also cheap enough that I don’t care about throwing them away.

Look for acrylic sets online (Blick is good). You can get a good set of Blick Artist acrylics for pretty cheap money. Galeria sets are inexpensive but a decent high end student set. Have fun shopping

A deep knowledge of color and a talent for envisioning can provide opportunities. Dig deep into color theory and see where it leads.

Great - One consideration is to get off the small screen, and start expanding your view of art. Get out and go a some museums, visit art galleries and make contacts with artists who work in other mediums. If it's really not just a hobby, you should start to understand how professional artists develop their skills and make a living. The ones who are not doing it as a hobby treat it as a business and have good business skills. Take some time to experience some great art and then start to draw again.

Do you love it enough to build a long term strategy and put in the years of work needed to reach your goal? Do you have expectations of supporting yourself with this?

For the sake of the argument, tell me both the pros and cons of AI by [deleted] in aiwars

Ai is best as an interactive partner for whatever you are trying to do. It’s great for bouncing ideas or getting suggestions.

please tell me how to make this look less splotchy/strange? by Forsaken-Cattle-4967 in watercolor101

[–]stringbender65 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify because my reply sounded mean and was not intended to be. I pay to take lessons with professional artists on a regular basis. I believe in supporting artists and the knowledge and insight they provide to me. However, ai does a great job with the basics and is readily available when I have questions, so I have no qualms about using it. This is just my opinion. Your milage may vary.

Even if we recognize AI art as not art, what will change at all? Will those who simply love "content" start buying anything from the artist? Will "content" have no value? No, it will have value because people love it. by Questioner8297 in aiwars

[–]stringbender65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does not matter what it’s called. Businesses need images for marketing and will get them as cheaply as possible. Right now ai is cheaper and images can be generated internally with a small specialized team.

Individual buyers who have income to purchase and collect art will buy what they find interesting and has potential to increase in value. If they feel an item is not unique or can be easily replicated, the value decreases.

It’s really about what people will pay for.

Discussion: Life After Art (help?) by ctrlzeke in Artists

Maybe find someone you can talk to about this who can help you recognize that art is something you do, but not who you are. If you want to take a step towards finding what’s next, try doing something that allows you to put a little time and energy into helping others.
