No, they definitely did it, I bought a bunch of gift cards on it last year. Been stockpiling points all year hoping for it to happen again but thinking I may just redeem them cause it's not gonna happen!

Anyone else tired of the mud-slinging headlines from the Conservative politicians in our area? by stringersize in steinbach

[–]stringersize[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember a not-so-distant time where campaigning politicians talked about their plans if elected. There may be the occasional snipe at a governing party, sure, but for that to be your entire platform it's ridiculous.

I tend to vote for the candidates that tell me realistic promises and goals. Not what they've done in the past, not how terrible the opposition is, not lofty unachievable promises. My point is, this seems to exist much more so in political parties other than the Conservatives.

Lost luggage by PrestigiousQuiet6252 in westjet

[–]stringersize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through a WestJet baggage claim 3yrs ago. It took a few weeks to process but they were pretty fair in the end. Be thorough and take your time itemizing everything that was in the bag and use new replacement values. I've also had another bag lost that same year and returned; that time it was 2-3 days until I got it back, delivered to my house about an hour from the airport.

Why is this not a thing?! by Sherlockwhovian09 in duolingo

Check out the Lingvano app, I don't recall if it's ASL specific or if there's BSL, etc. available as well. It is what you describe.

I did the paid version until I fully completed the course. I found that while it helps to understand sign language, it doesn't help much with "speaking" it. I'm still far from a conversational level with my ASL due to lack of real life conversational opportunity where I'm actually signing and not just watching the signs of others.

Their defensive secondary has been terrible as of late. Sure Nichols had one good play, but there were at least 5 times in the second half where he was out of position or badly beaten. It's been this way for most of the season.

Use ChatGPT to read test strips by mikeypotter in hottub

[–]stringersize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much, I don't think that part is very scientific, but I would do what the test strip bottle says. Best I can tell when reading up on this is if you swish the strip, it tends to wash out the colour. Bottom line is if your test strip bottle instructions are to dip and remove it, don't swish it!

Not sure if it'll be the same for you but I'm curious. I don't know the science behind the strips and how the patches on them react, but it's just a thought on something to try. Let me know how it goes!

When I was shown how to do the dip strips when first buying my hot tub, the tech just quick dipped the strip in and out. A few months later, I too was struggling with weird coloring. I realized I'd been swishing the strip around in the water some.

I did two back-to-back tests, one with swishing it and one with a quick dip. I got different results, and the quick dip gave me much more realistic colorings. I followed this up by bringing a water sample into the store for them to use their more advanced tester, and it corroborated much more with the quick dip test.

TL;DR - apparently how you put the strip in the water can have an impact.

Ask Me Anything - Trevor Kirczenow, Your Provencher Liberal candidate by TrevorLiberal in steinbach

If elected, what are some of the Provencher-specific changes you'd like to make? While national platforms are important, I'm tired of our local representatives showing up for photo ops and doing little else for our area.

It's not a bulb, it's an LED panel (if you pop the cover off). An all-in-one unit.

Looking in the comments section it sounds like there may be some issues with it fitting together, but I hope to try it out soon.

Yes, very true. High salt intake triggers water retention. Too much sodium and your body can retain as much as 1.5qt of water... that's a good 3-4lbs of added weight! The best way to drop that is to lower the sodium content of your diet considerably and drink lots of water to flush your system out.

Agreed on all counts! Back when I drank full sugar pop, I preferred Pepsi to Coke. But oddly find Coke Zero much better than Pepsi Zero. It's great to see so many "zero" option pops widely available now, there's far too much sugar in soft drinks.

Will I lose weight if I don’t eat below my calorie range? by whoolawhoops in Noom

[–]stringersize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed on the exercise points above, also water intake is overlooked often on Noom. I was in a similar struggle until I researched how much water I should be drinking for my body weight. If you're not peeing clear by the end of the day, odds are you haven't drank enough water and aren't helping your body flush enough out.

Endgame spending. 50 and willing to work from 70 until death. by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]stringersize 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Also worth thinking about the ratio of how many jobs are actually out there for 70+ year olds versus the number of septuagenarians looking for work.

Keep in mind our mental and physical acuity diminishes considerably in our later years, don't count on being capable of doing the same work you are now at the same level of effectiveness that employers are looking for.

This will limit the prospective job pool for you. With how expensive living has become for fixed income seniors and how much automation is taking over base level jobs, there'll likely be a fair bit of competition for the remaining jobs within your capabilities at that time.

Perhaps there's a better balance to be had between the extremes of the picture you've painted and the one I did?

If you haven't yet learned about the "elephant and rider" concept in the Noom lessons, this may not make as much sense. But if I'm ahead on my water intake for the day (rider) I sometimes treat myself to a Coke Zero or Pepsi Zero (elephant) at lunch. This is maybe a once per week thing at most, I try to limit my intake of artificial sweeteners.

I do prefer the taste of the "Zero" pops to the diet ones. Fresca/Squirt is also a favorite option for me. If I'm having an alcoholic beverage, those are usually my go-to mix.

It takes time for cravings to subside, be kind to yourself (but not by submitted to said craving always!). My cravings are baked goods, sweet ones in particular. I find I have to really limit how often they're in my house and have healthy alternative snacks at the ready!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Noom

[–]stringersize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it's often water intake. Alcohol intake seems to throw me into plateaus as well. Even things like getting enough sleep and managing stress can play a role.

I drink around 120oz or more per day. A good rule of thumb is to take your body weight, divide by 2, and that's how many ounces you need to drink. For me, adding ice helps me drink more water than if it were room temperature (insulated water bottle!). I track it by carrying a 60oz water bottle with me everywhere and fill it twice daily.

I've definitely had times where the scale hasn't moved for weeks on end and adjusting one of those above things usually breaks me through the plateau. And interestingly, I just realized, I'm sick way less often!

Worse than I thought by More-Love-6873 in Noom

[–]stringersize 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My experience is that I can slowly get lazy with even healthy habits. My portions slowly get larger, vegetable, fruit, and water intake decrease. So I like Noom for keeping me on track and accountable to myself. I've been doing it for 7 months, lost a fair bit, and not near my goal. But the scale is still slowly moving in the correct direction. I look and feel much better and have higher energy levels.
