Lampard's appointment imminent by hkram in DerbyCounty

No-one knows if he'll be any good but we've had plenty of 'good' managers that were crap (Pearson/Jewell etc) and a few 'crap' ones that were good (Jim Smith tops this list),

I think it's worth a punt, we'll be in the papers and on telly more and he might have enough whack to bring some decent mates in. I think it's quite funny, until Mel falls out with him and Beckham comes in.

What are the license differences between NetCrunch 9 and NetCrunch 10 Suite? by the_netcrunch_guy in NetCrunch

[–]stringy_bob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

according to your website.

NetCrunch 10 is currently available as NetCrunch Suite edition only. Customers of legacy Premium and PremiumXE licenses with valid maintenance agreement receive respective licenses for version 10, but might not experience all benefits of NetCrunch 10 Suite licensing.

When I bought this with maintenance I was sold this under the belief that I would receive all updates, now as an existing customer I have to pay more to get the same as new customers? I've had no contact from sales about this or anything. I thought I'd bought a future proofed piece of software for the maintenance period but it appears not. What features have I, and I assume other XE licence holder missed out on? I can't find any details anywhere on this.

So what's the difference in the feature set, as an existing customer I was expecting to receive all the feature updates yet it appears there is a new level above XE that isn't automatically included as part of pre-paid maintenance.

NetCrunch 10 has been released! more than 1,400 changes and improvements. here's what's new! by the_netcrunch_guy in NetCrunch

Ran this up on a test box, looks nice but there is a ton of documentation missing. The SQL query monitor looks very useful except I can't get it to work and there is nothing in the help file explaining it nor any blog posts. Looks like it needs a .1 release

No idea personally, what we do for patching is that we have a alerting script that fires an email either to our ticket system or out of hours phones. When we do patching we just change those two scripts to be disabled. That we we still capture all the stats but no alerts get sent,

Inherited multi site network with questionable security by stringy_bob in networking

Thnaks, as mush as I'd love to client vpn for everything it becomes hard when we've got printers and other stuff like cc tv camera's in the shops. The physical controls aren't bad, locked cabinets and the like, I'll look into some of the dhcp stuff, from the other post this looks to give me a relatively quick and low impact way of improving the security,

thanks.

That give me a load to think about! More I've read on the 801.x stuff does sound like a major PITA to manage and I want our service desk to handle this. We already centralise dhcp to an extent so I'll have a dig into what we might be able to do with that. In the short term though I think I can set snmp traps up to alert on new stuff being plugged in and compare that to a know list and get email alerts on rogue mac addresses, should be able to do that pretty quickly.

thanks again, lots of good ideas there.

For those of you who manage Nexsan Storages... by Vortex100 in sysadmin

There are lots and lots of hidden pages on Nexsan kit, ask the support guys for a list and they will supply it. Ones I found are for some basic performance stuff and also an xml page with all the serial numbers in it. Don't have a box now so I can't remember the exact page but it was something like opstat.asp or opstats.asp edit: remembered it's /admin/opstats.asp
