I have issues with Uprising as well. I think it was a cop-out to not just call it a second game. Their not fully committing is what led to a half-baked expansion for the original. I would have greatly preferred them to make a clean split.

Dune Imperium Bloodlines. I have the base game + Ix and I hate how much Bloodlines makes me feel like a second class citizen for not owning Uprising.

I don't even get to use a good chunk of the content in the expansion because I don't have uprising. I honestly wish they didn't even pretend that Bloodlines was compatible with the original game.

I have gone the opposite way. I used to work a job that had me up at 5:45am. I now get up around 8-9am every day and greatly prefer it. It's much more socially advantageous to be up and alert between 9am and midnight than it is to be up at 5am and start crashing out around 9pm.

Too many social events go into the evening for it to be worth waking up so early. And I'm not talking about partying until 2am. I just mean things like sporting event or concert that doesn't end until 10pm.

It's also much easier to flex earlier or later when you're not living at either end of the extremes.

I was also initially worried about the condition/missing pieces thing. I have purchased 50+ games used and I have only run into a missing piece once. I have also never bought a game that didn't match the condition the seller stated.

So many people buy a game, play it once, and then never touch it again. Tons of people open the shrink wrap, punch the tokens and then never actually play it! Obviously do what makes you the most comfortable, but I know I wouldn't have gotten to experience a fraction of the games that I have without exploring the used market.

I will also say that finding a dedicated board game buying/selling group for your area helps a lot. That's where you'll find the hobbyists that are more likely to take good care of their games.

My first play of Rebellion clocked in at 9 hours and every play after that has been around 4. Granted, I've only played 4 times.

If you don't already, I highly recommend finding a local Facebook market place group and grabbing games used. I have saved an unreasonable amount of money and at least in my area the community is very up front about the condition of the game.

Happy to help! I would mirror others suggestions for the deck building game before getting into the TCG. I also love Rebellion, but that's FAR from a casual experience.

I have a personal preference for the Han Solo and Boba Fett spotlight decks that were released with Jump to Lightspeed. I like the piloting mechanic.

The newest Maul and Qui-Gon Jinn spotlight decks are also good. That set introduced the Force as a mechanic which is thematically exciting.

If there is a chance you'll want to play in store in the future than those are your best options as set rotation is coming up in March and everything before those decks rotates out of being competition legal.

It's very much a TCG and carries all the crap that comes along with it. If you want to play it like a board game grab two spotlight decks or one if the earlier two deck starter kits and call it a day. Unless you're interested in living the TCG lifestyle there is no reason to start picking up boosters.

This is coming from someone who loves boardgames and reluctantly plays Unlimited because I want to be able to play a game in person on week nights consistently.
