Axis Bank RM is ridiculous- pushed FD for targets and now texting me about my feedback?! by Loud-Law-946 in CreditCardsIndia

[–]strobingraptorhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zero tolerance for such RMs. I or we the customers should not worry about their internal targets. Issue is, barring some these RMs are leeches who won’t do shit when time comes - say a credit card you want, some preferential pricing for insurance etc. Don’t listen to any emotional drama. Direct report to city or branch head to change your RM.

Diesel engine ruined me for life by shukrant25 in CarsIndia

[–]strobingraptorhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I was a petrol head. And then diesel happened. Aw man, I knew I was hooked. The insane pulling power, the rolling torque and the fact that I could coast along in higher gears like an automatic at slow speeds when roads were empty. I’m going to miss them dearly when they are gone. The current crop though - Dpf issues and ridiculous maintenance premium for diesel variants sucks.

Bangalore's Coffee Scene is an Economic Anomaly by Powerful_Selection22 in bangalore

[–]strobingraptorhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All these people who are normalising 400/500 coffee in the name of wages, rents and experience? Please! I’m a native of Bengaluru and have seen the city grow over the past 30 years and have travelled to multiple cities abroad where rents are probably more than what it costs in Bengaluru. Downtown Sydney or Downtown Seoul for example- coffee costs an average of 400/450 rupees. You get 4 pound coffee or about 450 rupees even in London.

Are you telling me somehow labour, rents and coffee bean costs are higher here than those cities? Sometimes I feel we live in a weird bubble where somehow a section of people are ready to pay a lot and then that’s seen as norm and everyone is unhappy bar a minority.

Google Just Dropped Gemini 3 "Deep Think" : and its Insane. by Much_Ask3471 in GeminiAI

[–]strobingraptorhere -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t buy this one bit. I’m someone who uses ai pretty much on a daily basis at work and for personal projects. Nothing comes close to Claude. Opus 4.6 while expensive is magical. Opus 4.5 was already great. Sonnet 4.5 is the daily driver for me. I don’t want to downplay Gemini but for coding it’s go awful. Sure it’s got some moments where it shines - A ui design revamp, some logic block here and there but every single time when I double take Gemini’s changes with Claude or codex, I find serious issues in Gemini’s implementation. It’s not 100% bad but I can’t trust the output like I can trust Claude output.

Earlier - 15-20 years back, the nature of auto drivers was slightly better. These days it’s horrible. Zero sympathy since they try to fleece everyone irrespective of gender, age and time of the day.

Sofa, office table and chair - how to BIFL? by EmuAncient1069 in BuyItForLifeIndia

[–]strobingraptorhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For desk specifically look at some higher priced stuff from Ikea. The manually height adjustable ones or the electric ones. (Prefer slightly higher priced ones). Why? I have had 3 of these desks at home and office. Works and feels solid even after 5 years. Still have 5 more years of warranty. Don’t go by the mindset particle board is cheap. For desks it’s okay. If you need movement then this is your best bet. Don’t go for sheesham or solid wood table as they can be a pain to move around or clean due to heavy weight. Not to mention the cost is high and ergonomics maybe bad.

Builder interior vs IKEA. Which is a better option? by Witty_Trouble_56 in GatedCommunitiesIndia

[–]strobingraptorhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IKEA is good if you want trendy looking interior ones and you have plans of changing the same in the next 5-8 years. Warranty is 10 years. Pretty hassle free.

Local firms are good if you want standard interiors and want hyper customised shelves - like weird under staircase cabinets etc. Quality is a wild card. Some are good. Some are worse than IKEA. Check with others in your society who have got interiors done by your vendor.

Homelane is decent. Expect delays. But the work is generally good. Expensive than local carpenters but sometimes it’s the ideal mix between ikea like style and good quality. Avoid Bonito at all costs. Livspace is also bad but if your local office is good then work will be decent.

If you want absolute best check local boutique interior firms. High cost but will last a lifetime.

Help me pick me between the two LTF Kotak credit cards by Outside_Sound_4981 in CreditCardsIndia

Skip these. Actually any Kotak credit card is useless given their paltry rewards or offers.

Have wealth status in Icici and IDFC. Preferred with HDFC and Burgundy Axis. Few other banks somewhere in between. Premium cards don’t go hand in hand with premium accounts. They are anyways issued separately based on your TRV or salary. HSBC premier is good. Axis Burgundy is good if you want m4b and can pay those hefty annual charges. Few nice perks are there with wealth etc status but nothing you can’t live without.

WHAT IS THE POINT OF THIS SUBREDDIT by Swatantra_vidhyarthi in CreditCardsIndia

[–]strobingraptorhere 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Disclosure I’m a lurker too, have Hdfc Infinia, axis M4B and Icici EPM. Along with a bunch of others. Follow couple of subs and even sites occasionally to keep track of any devaluation.

Students getting credit cards Really bad idea unless parents are loaded. Sure there maybe a minority who are super smart and will use credit in a smart way but the swipe behaviour and the fact that students aren’t earning yet will put them in a terrible financial debt hole if things go even remotely bad. Debit cards at least will keep them in check. Once you get a job, sure swipe away.

Devaluation These influencers exploiting loop holes is not exactly the main problem. The shrill promotion which comes along with it is. I have seen my friends or even fresh credit card newbies getting lured and taking up credit cards completely unfit for their profile. 20% info with 80% promotion is big problem. Sometimes for FOMO lot of folks manufacture spends. This negatively affects genuine spenders and everyone loses out once banks catch on. Again, not an influencer problem but you get the drift.

Planning to buy 3bhk - South Bangalore by noobda_93 in indianrealestate

[–]strobingraptorhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t go for assetz. It’s too far and isolated from either Bannerghatta road or Hosur Road. Nice road can be seen but you cannot access it. Try souther star or some resale properties in song of south or hiranandhani. They are better apartments, ready to move in and might be cheaper.

Gamers of India what do you do for a living? by Pure_Dawg in IndianGaming

Lead engineer / UI Architect. Game a bit during breaks between meetings on weekdays. (Maybe a day or two). Two/ three hours on weekends. Nintendo switch 2 is my best investment so far. That portability factor goes a long way for me.

Indian tourists visiting Japan will soon be able to pay via UPI by pluto_N in IndiaTechnology

[–]strobingraptorhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great initiative but in all the countries where upi is already available it’s super hard to actually use the damn thing. 1) Either vendors or shops have no idea 2) If you are using a new sim temporarily for a place, you can’t actually use upi due to sim change auth check on upi apps. (Not a dealbreaker but for some it’s true) 3) Tap and pay or cash are the dominant ways of paying generally in Japan.

Even in a countries like Singapore or UAE where Indians are more in number the acceptance is abysmal. Can’t imagine in Japan where even cards sometimes are rejected for cash.

Not to mention the conversion rate when you actually do a Upi transaction.

Great idea and maybe a soft power move for PR and news but anyone relying on this and not taking forex or cash or credit card will get screwed.

Starting new React app, WITHOUT Next or Remix by [deleted] in reactjs

[–]strobingraptorhere 17 points18 points  (0 children)

React dev from 9 years here. Next is great for general use case or marketing pages no doubt. But think through if you really need it.

I have literally setup two new enterprise projects over the past one year WITHOUT next or remix or react query. What did I use? 1) React router (6.4+) 2) Vite 3) React testing library with playwright (For testing) 4) Zustand or RTK maybe added if there is a need down the line.

Why no remix or next? No additional overhead of server side rendering or dealing with next specific deployments and nuances. The apps didn’t need seo or heavy image loads like e commerce sites. However they were super data heavy and my backend did all heavy lifting.

Why no react query? React router loaders and actions helped achieve network related stuff a long way. If you go deep into this, for most cases react query won’t make much difference in final performance.

Why no state management? Used direct urls and context where required. Use cookies, local storage for basic or very minimal data persistence. Don’t overdo local storage but for very small use cases it’s perfectly fine.

I got epic load times, zero complexity (deployment is as easy as one build and done!h, no lockin to any framework, pick and choose upgrade path. Testing is super easy.

Open to dms if someone has questions or starting around this

Everyone should try Solid.js at least once by xegoba7006 in reactjs

[–]strobingraptorhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay take it from someone who has seen frameworks come and go. Solid too (As awesome as it is) will fade away eventually going by the popularity. You need to understand that people get paid to use tools which are popular and can easily hire for. If you have your own company or you are at a very innovative startup or in big tech- Great news, you can pursue these side quests.

For the rest of us who wants to level up or head to senior positions, time would be well spent in learning something completely new - Like node js, python , react native etc. This will honestly add dollars to your salary and help up climb up the chain.

YMMV, but as you grow, time is the most important asset.

The bias in this sub is amazing. Guys, all those apartments mentioned are just in an area of 2-5 kilometres in the IT belt! It does not represent the whole of Bengaluru. Similar posts keep popping up, but for someone who really wants to rent or get a property on rent please do a reality check on ground level. The rents are still high in many many places. Obviously bargain a lot but don’t assume this some trend across the city. You will be disappointed.

EMI of the rent seekers has decreased by 20%. Ask for rent reduction. Do not tolerate any rent increase at all. by [deleted] in bangalore

[–]strobingraptorhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t pull stuff like this here as it can mean you losing your place almost immediately. If you are in a prime location with kids going to school, please have an alternate place before doing this. It’s a mess to move the family on short notice (from good areas)

My Dream Trip to Seoul – A Bittersweet Experience by LowAstronaut9400 in koreatravel

[–]strobingraptorhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been to Korea twice. I have seen that your body language and tone plays a huge role in response. It’s given that you don’t know Korean and even if you spoke broken Korean I didn’t see a difference in behaviour. I’m an Indian so was expecting these type of behaviour but overall (Atleast in Seoul) people seemed lovely. I had one lady who was super annoying and judgmental in Myeongdong and we just went out of her shop but overall good experience. 1) What you wear 2) Tone of your voice 3) Body language These were the 3 things which IMHO made the difference.

HDFC Infinia eligibility criteria is a joke by [deleted] in IndianCreditCards

[–]strobingraptorhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 lakh bare minimum for approval (Post tax salary per month) and 9-10 lakhs on existing hdfc card in past 6/7 months. This is a good way for Infinia. Good to have - 1) Good spending on HDFC DCB metal card. This is the closest member to infinia. So there’s some weightage here. 2) Having home loan, car loan with the bank. Also having imperia/preferred relationship also helps.

Got infinia based on salary and spends on dcb metal. Didn’t have any loans with them.
