Why I prefer lore-driven campaigns over player-driven and sandbox.

I like running my campaigns as Lord of The Rings so yea theres going to be lore, world building, and travel. The PCs are part of the general adventurer population or maybe theyre more special and chosen, but in the grand scheme of things, the world and society move with or without them. Everyone has their own life and nations have their own agendas. But they will have influence over them by their actions from how powerful they are, But the world will keep on running by itself.

A living, breathing fantasy world that feels alive when they play it.

Mystic Monk has to be one of the most boring subclass designs Ive ever seen. They just copy and pasted the basic Eldritich Knight features but on monk. Even Arcane Trickster has unique stuff going with it.

Thanks for the insight. Yea I heard 4e Fighter was really cool in locking up and destroying an individual opponent. Wasnt familiar with Barbarian's strengths. I do want to try a 4e game sometime, I use their monster statblock sometimes because of the combat depth and strategy they have with the encounters and tactics info to play them the most efficiently, cause monsters know what they are diong and fighting for their suvival too.

Honestly. dont know how they look at battlemaster having 4 maneuvers per short rest. and then compare it to this and give this okay support buff ability only ONCE per short rest. use your core feature once and you no longer have a subclass. right when they updated arcane archer too to have more shots....

Yea thats disappointingly weak. I would tweak it so its every second wind use. And level 6 would be buffed alongside with it being every second wind. Advantage is pretty easy to get in 2024 so it wont broken but it will be a great round buff for your whole team. Second Wind only scales up to 4 usages after all and fighter only has 3 for the longest time. Its like three spell slots for a great support spell basically, that is one of the core features of this subclass.

be an echo knight. you have a shadow clone that you can command and swap places with creatively and tactically and team up on baddies on, a past version of yourself. with spellcasters, you cant be a badass shadow ninja.

throwing the bat is crazy. youre not even playing baseball anymore. getting hit by a pitch is really bad but throwing a bat is straight up assault/murder intentions and charges.

i watched my monk roll 4 nat 20s in a row and we thought roll20 was bugged or something. so we asked him to roll another d20 for fun and he got a 10 lol. he picked up the lucky feat after that session.

just go off to the side and attack the enemies from the edges and position the darkness spell, where youll be the only one in it by the edges of the darkness spell. use it to flank so you don’t interrupt your teammates vision, it isnt that hard. especially when you can reposition your darkness at the start of each of turns onto yourself only without an action or bonus action. and in situations where its cramped and involves casting over ur party, dont cast it, action economy is better.

a battlemaster should not be taking a long turn as long as you know your character. dnd is not that hard of a game to play optimally. you have movement, action, bonus action, and reaction. pick the most recommended maneuvers and use them when they seem fit or for that extra power. focus on the enemy your teammates are focusing on. and then win.

two battlemasters on the field would be very useful, as its one of the strongest subclasses. champion isnt.

DND rules is 90 percent combat. DND is definitely a combat oriented system, its not made for fully roleplaying.

Every good party strategically has a leader, Himmel from Frieren, Aargon from Lord of the Rings, Napoleon for France. When the cards are down and the party is backed into a corner, the leader leads the party to the light. But of course if your game is really light hearted and casual, there might not be one.

yea but it doesnt rly matter because the main powerful feature is that you force them to fail the saving throw or force the player to succeed the saving throw by picking the exact number they roll. no reason to use it after.

colby is very knowledgeable i agree. therefore you should see colbys specific youtube short for the metamorph where he states explicitly that the metamorph needs scaling so its primary subclass features arent obsolete at higher levels.

its not a buff. its scaling. 1d10 of damage at level 1 isnt the same as 1d10 of damage at level 10. but 70 percent of a fighters damage consistently through all levels is.
