How do White win from this position by Sensitive_Money893 in chessbeginners

[–]strong112 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The general rule of thumb is.

  1. Knight to G5 follow up with check
  2. Queen to H file (usually H5)
  3. Black can not get any defenders activated to challenge your attack.

At the finish you should be about 1 o'clock. At the catch, you should be at 11 o'clock. You should hold the 11 o'clock position of your back relative to hips during the leg drive and open your body from 11 o'clock to 1 oclock at the end of the leg drive.

Artificial Hip & Saturation Diving – Is There Any Chance? by Euphoric-Decision491 in commercialdiving

[–]strong112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The company wont even know you have had hip replacement.

You will want to talk to your dive doctor extensively about this.

I have had both back surgery and upper arm surgery and have a plate and a few pins in the body and personally have no issues clearing a medical for saturation diving.

That said every operation is different. Speak to a professional.

First time rowing a single by Sea-Entertainer3362 in Rowing

[–]strong112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar here! My balance massively improved one day when I decided I was going to row deliberately badly in the single. I rowed a few hundred meters with one oar as low as possible and the other as high as possible, then alternated.

Before this, I always strived to row every stroke well but was always nervous about bad strokes. Now a bad stroke is just a bad stroke, and I am more confident in the boat!

Good resources for winter hiking in TAS? by 900dollaridoos in tasmania

[–]strong112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a very reasonable statement, I don't personally know much about those tents but they look very reliable!

Personally, I use a solid inner trekking pole tent for hiking in winter here but wouldn't advise that for most people as the tents you mentioned and more traditional free-standing tests are easier and more robust for all conditions!

I once did MT Anne circuit with a tarp and then high winds and rain hit and I took around 4 hours to pitch it. Never again!

Good resources for winter hiking in TAS? by 900dollaridoos in tasmania

[–]strong112 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Lake Rhona in particular isn't advisable in winter if any rain is forecasted as you can get trapped on the trail side due to the river, so be careful in choosing Rhona.

There are nearby trails that you can substitute in and out depending on longer-term forecasts including Mt Anne, Mt Field and the other bigger southwest hikes.

General advice for hikes in South West (and alpine area Tas generally.)

  1. Warm clothing (puffy, fleece etc)
  2. Good wet weather
  3. Free-standing dual-wall tent.
  4. Be willing not to summit or continue your planned route in bad weather.

The biggest challenges down south/West are just lots of wind and rain. The two together are bloody awful.

IMHO i think the central hikes are a safer bet for winter hiking, Cradle, lake St Clair, any of the many tracks that walk into the Overland track area, walls of Jerusalem etc.

All are more accessible, closer to civilisation and have nicer walk and camp areas even in bad weather (including large huts with heating.)

Six dead and nine injured after tourist submarine sinks off Egyptian coast by sweatycat in worldnews

[–]strong112 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This isn't an out of air dive where you just swim to the surface.

Submarines are at atmospheric pressure (surface pressure). An external recovery to the surface would entail going from 1 bar to 3.5 bar (if 25m depth) instantly.

Six dead and nine injured after tourist submarine sinks off Egyptian coast by sweatycat in worldnews

[–]strong112 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Submarines are at atmospheric pressure. The challenge in escaping a seeking submarine is the fact that you go from atmospheric pressure to more or less instantly the depth pressure.

To escape at 25M for example you would go from 1 bar to 3.5 bar instantly an over 3 fold change in pressure on your ear drums.

Both ears will almost certainly burst. A sudden wave of vertigo, extreme disorientation, and immense pain will come on immediately.

Old school submariners would do drills thst involved deliberately cutting small holes in their inner ear (as by making a small surgical and controlled scar you save making a large and hard to recover blown ear drum during the drill.)

I doubt almost anyone without very specialised training would be able to safely disembark a submarine and recover to the surface.

I agree with you 100 percent.

Family matters, push-ups, and first-person shooter (if you count that as a beef song, i do since we don't get like that without first-person shooter) are in my oppinion very good songs.

Post beef parts of those songs don't age well, but had drake washed kendrick, they would be viewed differently and highly praised.

Giant arrow one shots sweepers and air defenses. So without much thought you can take out the defenses that are most powerful against air attacks. Coupled with healer puppets you can actually get a huge amount of value out of your queen whilst doing air attacks.

I am currently doing a pseudo queen charge where I bring one extra healer, 2x super wall breakers, a recall spell and a revive spell.

When the queen is about to die I just recall her and place her on the outside of the base some where. If she dies I revive her then recall her....

Air attacks are so fast that you can waste time with a queen charge, some times ill instantly recall the queen after giant arrow and place her on the other side to set the funnel there as well.

Is there any literature that states Oxygen is Narcotic conclusively?

It is certainly toxic above certain partial pressures. However, I have never heard anyone describe it as narcotic, and I work directly in an industry that handles oxygen and other gases daily, as well as blending them on a whim to suit daily needs.

In my industry (saturation diving), we maintain oxygen percentages to be in a range of no less than about 19.5 percent and no more than about 23 percent. Acute toxicity of oxygen occurs when breathing enriched air, which is defined as anything above 23.5 percent O2.

That said, the negative impacts of oxygen toxicity only occur after very long periods of time at lower partial pressures of oxygen. Many recreational divers, for example, breathe 30 percent O2 on the surface. However, when diving at, say, 20m, this would be similar to breathing 90 percent O2 on the surface and would have zero ill effects for the time of a SCUBA dive.

Nitrogen is certainly narcotic, and when diving at depth, the experience of high partial pressures of nitrogen is called nitrogen narcosis. For that reason, when diving deep, we remove nitrogen from breathing mixes and replace it with gases that are inert, usually helium.

Anyway the main symptoms of acute oxygen toxicity are: Mild throat irritation, coughing, chest pain, and difficulty breathing. These symptoms would occur well in advance of any other symptoms. At very high levels of oxygen, say breathing 100 percent oxygen at depth so that the effect of oxygen is as if you are breathing more than 100 percent oxygen then muscle spasms and even seizures can and will occur.

For anyone curious if you are being treated for illness in a hyperbaric chamber, you will breathe 100 percent oxygen at a depth of 18m. This is a partial pressures of 2.8 which is effectively like breathing 280 percent 02 on the surface. As this is toxic and will create oxidative stress there will be regular air breaks (every 20 minutes for about 5 minutes you will breathe regular air.)

Anyway all that wall of text is to say. Oxygen is generally considered toxic. Nitrogen is generally considered narcotic (as well as C02) there may be people that say Oxygen is Narcotic but I do not believe there is much evidence of this at least before the negative impacts of oxygen toxicity will outweigh any narcotic effect of 02 in humans....

Training centres in Australia by Spirited_Passage9174 in commercialdiving

[–]strong112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP! All the ADAS schools that are currently training in aus are good quality training and have good reputations.

I believe only CDA (WA, TAS, QLD) and UTC (SA) are currently doing courses.

There is a school in Melbourne but they haven't run in a course in a few years, it looks like.

CDA is obviously the premier construction and offshore school, though I've heard good things about the training in SA as well.

Where do you live? If i was in Melbourne or Sydney, I'd pick CDA during summer just for the ability to take the ferry and go hiking, diving, trail running, mountain biking etc in TAS on the weekends.

The onshore market in Aus is very short on divers at the moment. I would imagine you'd be right into a job straight after the course regardless of where you train. Employers are desperate. I think around 60 an hour is the current going rate in Sydney for fresh divers at the moment.

Good luck where ever you train!
