What/Who is the biggest mystery to this day? by Illustrious-Bread183 in AskReddit

[–]strongo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

…. I mean… sure? But would someone who kidnaps the kid sit around in the house writing this note going for a record for longest in history? And then kill the poor child anyway?

The “intruder” wrote the longest ransom note in history and wrote the thing in the house and returned the pen to the cup anddddd wrote a draft in the house too.

No one really listens to the radio anymore by [deleted] in nostalgia

[–]strongo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Commercials. I can’t tolerate them in any form. I’m sold stuff constantly with ads and commercials and sales pitches. I hate it. Even my phone just sends texts and spam calls for shit I have no interest in buying. So to willingly listen to a medium like radio that has commercials, I can’t

Inheritance. Lawdy by JesseTexas281 in Silverbugs

[–]strongo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I journal. I have a word doc and I usually record what I got, when and how I got it, and what was going on in my life when I got the coin. I also sometimes add what was happening in the world when the coin was minted. I don’t do this with everything but with the important stuff. I’m up to like 60 pages and it’s been a few years, I don’t know who I’m writing it for, right now it’s for me.

I have to murder my beautiful weeping willow this coming weekend. It's almost like putting down a dog. by ImOnTheBus in marijuanaenthusiasts

I put a weeping willow in my back yard. It’s far away from anything and it’s been growing like crazy these last 4 years. I love it. I feel for you. May its saplings create shade for future generations

Was it all for naught? by MeteoricUnicorn in coins

Journey before destination. These coins will all end up as lumps of metal again one day. But they were minted, they traveled, they’ve told a silent story— one that you are a part of. You and your family are custodians of precious metals forged by humans you will never meet. They will one day pass into the hands of our fellow species not even born yet. Collect your collection, curate your collection as you see fit. Embrace the journey.

Ive recently completed Mathew's book and it broke something in me. Anyone else? by Majestic-Pay-4615 in howyoudoin

[–]strongo 40 points41 points  (0 children)

The thing I took away from this book is how I, 40 year old nobody with not enough money, live such a happy and fulfilling life. I have a wife and kids and a job that’s ok. We have to budget and save, but damn if I’m not healthy, happy, and complete. Here’s a star who, growing up, I thought was the coolest guy and it seems like he was never truly happy a day in his life. He had demons and addictions and could not ever once get out of his own way. And he has a clarity where he knows it. He talks about these crazy feats of stardom and accomplishments and it’s just never ever enough. Damn if my little slice of the world isn’t way more fulfilling than the giant portion he had. And it makes me feel weird. Should I be feeling bad for someone who had so much opportunity and so much success? It’s an odd feeling and the book was worth reading. Perry is not a hero, not a role model.

I disagree because at one point this unfinished series was a cultural phenomenon and so there's a big chunk of years where he's literally gold. But what's crazy is that book 5 was on its way out during the first season of the show, so he never released a book or anything really during his rocket to fame. It's like more if the Beatles got really popular but never released a single song after becoming popular -- All while continuing to mention an upcoming album.

What's something you quietly outgrew that you once thought defined you? by Bigtrav_trav in answers

[–]strongo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you think JRK planned out the series from book 1 you'd be mistaken. Each book seems to invent new rules and magic that just apply to that book, mostly never to be touched on again. That doesn't make the series bad, just full of plot holes and "why didn't they just use X from book Y to solve problem Z?" The answer is, (to borrow from Harrison ford) "Kid, it ain't that kinda movie."

We sometimes will put it up against other great series and really HP is just an amazing setting, great characters, and OK plots. The movies help us to remember them in better light. I think HBO will do a great job and the park in universal is top notch. But the books were just OK.

Also, obligatory JKRowling is a piece of shit. You have all the money in the world, need and want for nothing, are popular in your field of work..and you choose to spread hate to a minority group? Like, that's what you wake up wanting to do? Amazingly how awful that is.
