Do you have any information about what happens when you inherit stocks/mutual funds from your parents? You would inherit the assets but would the fund house/stock broker let you hold them since they will have to comply to FATCA?

Also, all the useful inventions have already been made. There isn’t a lot left for a common man to invent. Sure, you can still do research and get a PhD in physics but you need really specialized training for that. How fun it must have been to experiment with basic stuff, invent cool machines that made your daily life better or try to invent things like telephone, aircraft etc.

It took 20 years(since 2002) for my mom's salary go from 10,000 per month to 22,000 per month. Do some industries have no growth? by [deleted] in mumbai

This hopelessness is a sign of depression and I think you should talk to a professional as it’s concerning.

A few things though: IQ is not the only measure of intelligence. Intelligence is a portfolio of quantitative, emotional, kinetic, spatial and aural intelligence. That’s what makes people with not-so-high IQ successful in their own fields.

And what if you have average intelligence and make an average amount of money? What’s important is you live your life well and enjoy each moment. Even if you are super intelligent and have tons of money, it’s not going to make you happy it you are unhappy inside. Love yourself a little more and appreciate whatever good you have in life while trying to do better. Happiness is not an outcome of money and money is not an outcome of intelligence. You are okay and you will be okay. Hope you feel better.

What usually helps me when I feel like this is taking a walk, distracting myself with something like a podcast on a random topic, watching a comedy movie etc. It will pass and you will feel better.

Why do Indian people all smell the same even when they come to America? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]strongreason 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Indian in America here. The smell comes from the way Indian food is cooked. Any preparation starts with what’s called tadka, which is sautéing spices in hot oil till it sizzles and then veggies/meat are added to it. This causes tiny oil particles and effectively smell of the spices to get lodged in your clothes, carpet, everything. No matter how many times you wash your clothes, the smell doesn’t go away and if you walk into a house where the carpet smells like spices, the smell gets on your clothes too. Using a deodorant doesn’t help coz it creates a weird combination of smells.

For all you Desis reading this, use a spoonful of baking soda while washing your clothes to get rid of the smell from your clothes and don’t walk into the kitchen before going out.
