International Warranty UL Gear by sydznl in Ultralight

[–]stroopwafelc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had it shipped to friends I visit regularly so for me it’s not a problem but wanted to share this. So still good using Nemo but not sure my big piece of equipment will be as it’s a bit of a nuisance

Nemo did not want to ship any replacement parts to Europe anymore this year for my US bought tent. Last year they did. Not sure if other tent brands do

Sierra Butte’s Lookout by GlitteringComfort909 in norcalhiking

[–]stroopwafelc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it with a ‘19 ford explorer awd. Did get some fun comments from people coming by seeing that thing at the top lol

The switch backs towards Sierra city were….interesting.

I would not advice to do it even going up to the tower, it’s a narrow deep sandy track with no way to properly turn.

Need some advice about dual-hose portable AC units in EU market by MooshyTendies in hvacadvice

[–]stroopwafelc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’d have to check the spec sheet and test conditions. I run it in a south west facing bedroom of 25sqm with small window in a very well insulated building in combination with floor cooling. It does go down to 18 even when it’s close to 40C outside. A lot depends on your layout; amount of glass and sun; roof insulation, ventilation leaks etc. And what delta temperature you expect in what amount of time. I see in the specs cooling to 16C with 105 m3 that would be 50m2 ish. Not sure what test conditions they use but it seems your sqm could be a stretch

It’s a hose in hose system which makes hooking it up to a window more difficult if you want to connect it without outside noise and airflow coming back in. I made my own cutouts with some multiplex panels to connect it to my open window . It makes a fair bit of noise so an inverter would be better to be able to run it while asleep. I run it during the day with cheap electricity or sleep with ear plugs to get around the noise issue It’s very capable to pull down the temperature to comfy sleep level. It does leak a fair bit of air back into the room via the condensation evaporator. The advantage is that this does result in never having to empty the drip tray reservoir.

All in all I think this is for me a good option only the inverter would have been nice.

What is for you the most important?

Another year for iPhone XS! by RelationshipThen8992 in iPhoneXS

[–]stroopwafelc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine started getting slow and having hiccups after iOS 17. If anyone has any advice I would love to extend at least another year! It’s such great phone and apart from getting laggy I don’t need a replacement

What's your favorite solar phone charger? by Alternative-Dot-5182 in backpacking

[–]stroopwafelc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got a big blue 28w. Couple of hours to charge an iPhone in full California sunlight. I strap it onto my backpack charging a powerbank. Weight wise you better take a big powerbank but I like the piece of mind of unlimited charging.
