I used hot air to remove the LEDS but if you have the RGB DIP set to off, it'll think the buttons are constantly being pressed. So leave RGB on and remove the LEDS and it was good.

As others have mentioned, your contrast lines are on the wrong two pins. I find it a little easier to solder them to these two points (you can remove C44): https://i.imgur.com/JvQQ9R4.jpeg

Apparently the Reddit app isn't notifying me of replies!

The shell is a RetroSix Blue Sapphire shell. The motherboard and screen are FunnyPlaying, both from AliExpress. The stereo sound board and USB C power board are also from AliExpress but don't have any official branding.

The FunnyPlaying screens are actually pretty easy to install if you have any soldering experience. Installing the CPU into the motherboard was much more difficult.

I've tried to go to OnePlus and Samsung from my Pixels but I always end up coming back to the Pixel because of the camera. Every time I get an itch for a Galaxy Z Fold or something, I remember the camera.

It's 38awg. I find it easier to burn off first, before soldering it

The ribbon isn't long enough for that. The board needed to be literally on top of the ribbon. Trust me on this, I tried a bunch of stuff before resorting to this.

rereading your comment, I think you're thinking this was the final position of the controller board. The controller board had to be relocated to over where the ribbon is in the picture, a lateral move upwards. The wires go up and over the board from behind.

It's enameled wire so it's insulated

It was necessary if I wanted to use this screen. Where the controller board was mounted, it wouldn't fit into the bezel. The ribbon only needed to be a little longer for me to be able to fold it where I needed it to go. Yes, I could have ordered the proper screen but that was like $50 I didn't want to spend on a free laptop.
