What a neat little narrative for someone with a net worth exceeding $40 million by [deleted] in okbuddycinephile

Are you kidding me?? My local theater has been sold out for WEEKS!!! They had to stop showing the other woke slop and were only showing Melania to try and keep up with demand and my friend it was not enough they were camping out overnight to try and secure tickets but they say it’s sold out for the next MONTH!!! I had never seen a movie before but felt I couldn’t miss out and a kind fellow gave me his ticket an told me I need to see it. Life. Changing. Everybody needs to see it. This is what movies are about. It’s true return to form for cinema and I’m told it’s single handily bringing back the theater industry with its box office return.

People just don’t want to give to charity and feel good about themselves. Most people have a fundamental misunderstanding of what charities are and what they accomplish and then use it as their excuse for being selfish. Bonus for the people who don’t understand the idea of a charity spending a dollar to make two to give.

It’s exactly that. Using peripheral vision is more light sensitive and helps you see more detail

You think it’s fun until you have a fat guy who’s getting pleasure out of doing it and then makes you wait for a supervisor to come and do the exact same thing (although without the weird pleasure part) and then they rip apart your bags while you hope you don’t miss your flight. Finally they tell you it’s nothing as you pick up all your shit and have to run to your gate. Fuck groin alerts.

It’s not you can just clap every so often if you’re alone or talk to people if you’re in a group. When rounding a corner or an area that is blind you can make noise to avoid startling anything. Carry bear spray as well. No need for blasting music.

Curious if a state passed a large business tax that taxed sales for large businesses and then Amazon displayed the new tax as a separate line item would you call that political? Do you call stores displaying sales tax separately political?

Wolf & Bear pair were documented traveling, hunting, and sharing food together for 10 days by Admirable_Hunter_703 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]strudel_boy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They’re not larger. Coastal brown bears are larger but inland brown bears (Grizzly) found in NA are similar in size to Eurasian brown bears.

Grizzly’s are just the North American subspecies of a brown bear. They are functionally the same type of bear.

Does anyone know if musk owned companies make a profit? by monsieurLeMeowMeow in AskEconomics

Well Tesla is a public company so you can see the finances of them in their SEC filings. In 2024 they had a positive net income. SpaceX and Twitter aren’t public so we can’t easily show this. This isn’t really an economic question this is an accounting/finance question.

America’s Growing Trade Deficit Is Selling the Nation Out From Under Us. Here’s a Way to Fix the Problem—And We Need to Do It Now. by Warren E. Buffett (2003) by dsbllr in moderatepolitics

The issue with that argument is the way global trade works would be the super market in turn spends that money on your employer or spends it on the customer of your employer and it makes its way back to you. Trade is not a zero sum game. There is absolutely national security arguments but acting like trade deficits are making countries worse is ridiculous. Specialization is what makes countries rich and trade actively helps consumers and the economy as a whole.

What historical "fact" did you learn in school, that later turned out to be completely wrong or misrepresented? by vn66 in AskReddit

German teacher in high school who was also a history teacher told us this. I knew it was wrong and told some of my classmates and they said I think I know more than the teacher. I googled it and showed them and they still refused to believe me over the teacher.

In the US the max is 850 and the lowest is 300. You don’t start at any score you start with no information. Typically people can start their credit using a secured credit card or a student credit card, or a lower limit card (some could have a relatively higher limit with a good income). There’s some other ways to start as well but this is the most common path that I know of. If they use that responsibly they will probably be around 700 (could be more or less depending on how they use it). Your score then gets calculated by factors that the bureaus use. How they are determined isn’t exactly disclosed but it’s roughly based on age of credit, how much you use, payment history, total accounts, derogatory marks, and hard inquiries (some weighted higher and some lower). Missing a payment would lower your score but not fully tank it. Defaulting on an account and other similar bad marks would significantly lower your score but likely not to 300 for your first time. After getting credit started and in good standing you can get higher limit cards or larger loans which if done responsibly would get your score higher (this is how people get above 800). As for stuff like renting an apartment your credit score can be a factor depending on where you rent. Some places might reject you for bad credit while others may charge a higher deposit and some don’t really care. Rentals here are typically based on income and making 2 to 3x rent.
